Meet Talha Rahman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Talha Rahman.

Talha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I worked at a Fortune 100 company before I started my own business. I was very happy at what I was doing and had a lot of success, I saw myself retiring from there. In 2013 I heard rumblings about lay-offs and cutbacks but didn’t feel like my job was at risk. Well, I was wrong. I got laid off and that was the biggest eye-opener thus far in my career. I have nothing bad to say about my previous employer, but it was shocking because I was one of the top producers at the company. This led me to do some soul searching and re-evaluate what is really important to me. The answer to that question was flexibility and growth opportunity. That is what led me to go into a completely different field, which was insurance. This was a complete 180 as I had no experience in the field but I saw the growth opportunity. I was able to take from the experiences of my previous employer, which helped me get a fast start to my career. After six months, I was able to move into a management position, which I took.

After one and a half years as a District Manager, I received another opportunity, which was to start my own agency. I took that opportunity and have been in that position for five years now. I was also able to accomplish these things in my career because of the wonderful members in my team. If I had to tell you one characteristic that got me to this point in my career and the success I have achieved, it would be “Stubbornness.” What I mean by that is I was stubborn enough to believe in myself, stubborn enough to move into a completely different field, and stubborn enough to hold on to the dream even during hard times. This is how I got to where I am today. Through hard work, believing in myself, and great people.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Was it a smooth road? The answer to this question is NO. I believe if the journey is smooth, then you are not pushing yourself to your limits and in turn, are doing something that comes easy. There were quite a few obstacles along the way, but the main one was doubt. This was a completely new field I was in and it would have been easier for me to go back to the field I already knew. There were some days I questioned my decision to choose this career, but what kept me going was my goal. I always kept that in front of me as that was what made me get through those days. Zig Ziglar has a quote that I like a lot he said, “People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing, that’s why we recommend it daily..”

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We help businesses with achieving comprehensive benefits for their employees. We consider ourselves as your one-stop shop when it comes to employee benefits. What we are known for is our alternative approach to Benefits. The part that I am most proud of our team is that we are not Sales Rep, we are true Consultants and our main objective is the client. What sets us apart is the people on our team and the culture we have here. Almost everyone on my team comes from a customer service background and the culture in this office follows the thought that we educate on a daily bases and we never sell.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The plan is to grow. When I say grow, it means that there will be more opportunities for others in my company. I am at a different point in my career where I get joy from seeing people on my team get opportunities to start their own agency. This career has done a lot for my family and me and I want more people on my team to experience the same thing. For this to happen, we have to expand our footprint in Dallas and that is why the future plan is to grow and grow fast.
