Today we’d like to introduce you to Talia and Michaela Willner.
Talia and Michaela, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We got started doing weddings in 2016 – by doing the flowers and decor for Talia’s wedding. Nothing quite like the Maid of Honor and the Bride being responsible for all the wedding flowers when they’ve never dealt with flowers before in their life! (Definitely don’t do this. 10/10 don’t recommend…we learned the hard way and did nothing but work for the entire wedding day and didn’t get to enjoy it.) Anyway, after we pulled this wedding off, we decided that even though it was super hard work, we loved floral design and wanted to get some more education and get into the business for real. We took some classes, did some weddings for free to get some experience, and worked out of an extra bedroom and a homemade floral cooler in Talia’s house for two years while we saved enough cash to open up a storefront, and now here we are!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road right from the start. The wedding industry is full of talented vendors, and it can be hard to break into! People don’t always want to hire a brand new vendor, so we had to find creative ways to get the experience we needed. It also takes a lot of capital investment to be in our business (for example, a wedding-sized floral cooler is $$$$!) and we didn’t have much money to start with, so every penny we made was plowed right back into the business for the first few years.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Willner Weddings – what should we know?
Willner Weddings specializes in intentional design through fresh floral, linen and decor styling, and wedding day coordination. Events are all that we do, and weddings are our lifeblood. We believe that everyone’s wedding should be a timeless, authentic representation of themselves, and we love bringing a couple’s vision to life! We are known for our unique design elements – you won’t get just another bouquet of flowers from us, you get a completely unique and custom design every time. What sets us apart from others is our willingness to go above and beyond for our clients. We always say that hiring us is like buying yourself tactical wedding day insurance – there is no way we are going to let anything be less than perfect, no matter what it takes!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Our creativity combined with our calming/joyful presence! We have vendors tell us all the time that we are the “chillest, most effective” coordinators and designers they have ever worked with. So many people think that being a coordinator means being bossy and keeping things on time….we make it about bringing peace to the day while ensuring that the couple’s wishes for their wedding day are fulfilled. We are flexible and we keep the most important thing in mind – the couple’s happiness.
Pricing:
- Florals – packages start at $1000 for pickup, $2000 for delivery
- Day-Of Coordination – $900 with purchase of a floral package, $1800 by itself
