Today we’d like to introduce you to Tameka Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been styling for a total of ten years off the record, but I’ve been dressing people all my life. Fashion has always been my passion & with the last two years, God used various trials to grow me into my purpose. I will admit I’m still growing, but I definitely have a story to tell about how great God is. I was blessed to be working in a boutique in Dallas called Kissbartique.
One day a lady walked in to shop, and we began talking while I was assisting her. In efforts to compliment my “amazing personality” – her words. She began ministering to me. She said: “this place is amazing, but this is not your future.” She also said: “you’re holding yourself back from greatness, but you need to forgive someone first before you move forward in life.” I immediately picked up the phone when she left and called the person and told them that I forgave them.
Within weeks of me acting on that forgiveness, I saw J Bolin at Church, and he hired me, a couple of days later. The rest is history! God is so great!! So with the help of God, J. Bolin and Kavon Frazier of the Dallas Cowboys, I have several clients that I work hard for on a daily!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing comes easy! Trying to balance work and family time. Meeting deadlines can be tuff, but with Gods grace and mercy you will get the job done.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about _MekStyles_ – what should we know?
I’m a full-time Stylist I specialize in Men Fashion. I’m known for mixing prints and color. I’m so very proud of my growth and my new projects in the future. What sets me apart is changing the narrative of men thinking that fashion is limited for them. I love showing my clients how we can mix prints and put them in colors that they wouldn’t have ever tried before.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’m a very hard worker, and I LOVE MY JOB!! I’m very caring. I love people! My job is to make everybody smile and look amazing. It takes Prayer, Patience, Prosperity in this business.
