Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamill Acker.
Tamill, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
About five years ago, I left corporate America to start my home inspection company. My previous background was in business management/finance/call-centers. I’ve always had the desire to work for myself and on my own business, so when I got tired of working in corporate America and they’re limiting my income and upward mobility, I decided to exit corporate America space in stock my home inspection company. As my popularity grew in the home inspection industry, I naturally started other businesses that are soft white or in some way connected to real estate. I have a partnership with a whole warranty company and I also own my roofing company all saints roofing
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road to get where I am today was not an easy one. There are several requirements and things that need to be done in order to maintain my home inspectors license and to manage the day-to-day responsibilities of scheduling home inspections and roofing inspections. One of the struggles I currently have is keeping up with the demand because I am currently a one-man team. Each month I turn down several inspections because I do not have the ability to get to them sometimes within three days. All of those things and trying to manage a work-life balance between my wife and four kids can be very challenging but it’s been well worth it.
Acker Home Inspections and All Saints Roofing – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My primary function as a home inspector and a commercial property inspector. My job is to provide my clients with insight as to the status of a property so that they can make an informed business decision as pertains to purchasing a home or a residential piece of property. What makes me different from most home inspectors is that I’m a licensed pest control specialist, a certified pool and septic tank inspector and I also own my own roofing company. That makes me a one-stop shop. I’m also known for being extremely thorough and being able to get my reports to my clients the same day. I’m most proud that I was able to create a successful company that allows me to take care of my family. It’s very easy for me to set my self apart from others because they are not me and I am not them. My college band director would always say, “I know all the best and I am the best that I know.” I am not in competition with them. I am in competition with myself. I have extremely high standards and I’m always increasing them on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The way I define success is probably very different than others. It’s nice to achieve certain business markers for revenue or a total number of roof installations or inspections completed but for me, success is being dedicated to the pursuit of a goal consistently. Many people make goals but never pursue them consistently. I do.
