Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanesia Jones.
Hi Tanesia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Crystal Springs, MS, a small country town, but I moved to the bright lights of Houston, TX, where I spent 14 years and grew to love and represent the city as my second home. Now, I’ve been in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for four years. My music journey began in Houston in 2012, starting with my first radio appearance on Street 93.3 with Ms. Fiyamediamogul. Over the years, I’ve performed in numerous showcases.
In 2018, I had the incredible experience of being on stage with RadioBoss Hardbodykiotti from Houston’s hottest station, 97.9 The Box. I began my first EP in Houston, and now I’ve just completed my third. My love for singing started in church when I was a little girl in Crystal Springs. I was part of the Sunshine Choir, the Mass Choir, and a small group called the Jones Sisters, where I often took the lead and sang high notes, always eager to perform in front of a crowd.
I will always remember this story. As a child, my mom would yell, “Shut up, Lucy, with all that racket!” because I would spend too long in the shower, singing my heart out. Singing has been a huge part of my life from the very beginning. I started entering talent shows and even tried out for competitions like “The Voice.” When life throws challenges my way, I write and sing my feelings out. It’s how I cope with the unexpected trials and tribulations.
Now that I’m in Dallas, I’m embracing a new scene and environment, along with the challenges that come with it. I’ve reconnected with my musical style—Neo Soul and R&B—performing from city to city and going on mini tours. This chapter has been incredible, and I love every moment of it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life has a way of knocking you off balance and making you lose sight of what truly matters. Throughout my journey, I’ve faced both physical and emotional abuse. Being silent for six months interrupted my music, and I also had surgery on my liver. It’s been a tough road, but I’ve persevered and continue to make progress with God’s grace. From enduring toxic relationships to battling for my life against the Houston Police Department, I’ve learned that this life is a fight for survival, and you have to do whatever it takes to stay afloat. While it can be discouraging at times, my music serves as my escape.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an artist, singer, and songwriter, and my music reflects real-life experiences. What sets me apart is my soul and spirit. I don’t write about wishes or fantasies; I draw from genuine emotions. Growing up, I was influenced by old-school music and blues, which evoke a range of vibes that feel amazing. 90s soul and R&B are my all-time favorites, and people often tell me I have an old soul—and I love that! It truly represents me. If music doesn’t make you feel good, it’s not real music to me.
Over the years, I’ve grown and achieved so much as an independent artist. My writing has become stronger, and my sound has evolved, all rooted in the real-life experiences I’ve gone through. My music is real and raw, infused with soul and R&B. I’m excited about what’s next, especially with just releasing my latest project, “Breaking The Silence,” now available on all music platforms!
As a rising star in R&B and Neo-Soul, I embody a sexy, sassy vibe, and my stage presence is truly magnetic. My melodic soul sound is sure to captivate, and my lyrics aim to touch your soul while my story inspires.
How do you think about happiness?
What brings me happiness is finding peace and my connection with Yahwah. Both are essential to me, providing comfort and soothing my spirit when the world feels chaotic. Life can get overwhelming, but during those times, I seek out that peace and express it through writing.
