Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanner Taff.
Tanner, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We moved from El Paso, TX, never really thinking we would be in the marina business much less the restaurant business. However, we purchased the building from a friend and decided to dive right in with a complete remodel. “Where did the name Stumpy’s come from?” Well after spending some time on the water and seeing a few sunken boats, many knocked off props, and the crazy amount of stumps everywhere, Stumpy’s it is!
Our vision was selling food and fun while maintaining a family friendly atmosphere where kids could run and play. The people of Granbury are amazing and have supported us through a drought and other tough times. We feel grateful and blessed to be a part of the Granbury community. We always feel there is room to grow and improve and we will continue to do so in hopes of better serving the amazing people of Granbury.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is never smooth no matter what you are doing. There are many obstacles we face daily.
However, our greatest challenge was the two-year drought back in 2012. Our gas dock and boat docks were on sitting on dry land, putting a damper on lake activities. Although it was challenging, we took it as an opportunity to reinvent the business.
Please tell us about Stumpys Lakeside Grill.
We are a one stop shop. I’m the owner and manager of Stumpy’s Lakeside Grill. We specialize in food and are known for our fish tacos.
We are proud of what we offer to the public as a fun filled environment with a little bit of everything to experience. What sets us apart is we offer on the water dining with retail available.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Customer Service is one of the important qualities I would like to say I carry. Customer Service is an essential tool to have with passion behind it in order for a business to successfully run and also have your customer see that in you.

We live in Granbury and this is one of the places my children and grandchildren want to come to anytime they visit us. The food is great. There are adult beverages available for the grownups, the kids can run around and feed the fish, you can sit outside and watch the ducks swim and boats coming in and out. It is great. A real treasure for our town
