Meet Tareka Lofton of Loft22 Cakes in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tareka Lofton.

Tareka, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Texarkana Arkansas, started off as an award-winning visual artist with painting and sculpture. After years of growing to love the culinary arts as well, and relocating to the Dallas area, I decided to take a risk and journey to culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu Dallas. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu Dallas in 2013, Loft22 Cakes was born. “Our goal is to have the free spirit of creativity and sophistication to take our clients vision and event to the next level. We love the innovation of design using vintage southern charm.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, I literally started my business with nothing, no capital, or significant loans… nothing! You would have to know how ambitious my father was to understand why I wasn’t afraid to take the craziest risk anyone could take… I am my father’s child and a true risk taker… but a calculated risk that is! In the beginning, the shop struggled a lot. But with a lot of prayer, determination and creativity our shop is growing roots in the community and taking off like you would not believe. It’s amazing what persistence will do.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Loft22 Cakes is a cake company. We specialize in wedding and custom designed cakes with a fine art twist. I am most proud of our mission which is to exude kindness, inspiration and joy through high-quality pastry work.

My visual art background and natural southern knack for the kitchen gives us an edge to create cakes that look visually stunning and still taste like your Grandma made it, we strive to master both, and our customers know and appreciate the difference.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been one to march to the beat of my own drum. The chubby and funny girl, but highly creative and artistic with any every medium I could get my get my hands on. It took me a while to find my true confident path, I was 30 when I decided to go to culinary school. So I’m a proof that it is never too late to start over or begin a whole new chapter. This is the most challenging and exciting time of my life.
