Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Ogans.
Tasha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m originally an Oklahoma Gal. I grew up doing my sister’s hair. I quickly became known for braiding. Once I graduated high school, I went on to Cosmetology School. I graduated with an Associates of Occupational Science Cosmetology. I built my brand as a traveling hairstylist. I specialized in Weaves and Wedding hair, Prom hair any special events, as well. I received an opportunity to moved to Dallas and continue my hairstylist journey.
But once I got here that quickly began to fade. I struggled when I moved here I couldn’t get any clientele, I marketed the best way I knew how. I had to get a full – time job. I stop doing hair for years. I started to make my own wigs just because they were convenient for me than I started to make them for my sisters, friends, etc. I also became very skilled in makeup. And started receiving a request for not only wig services, but makeup and brows. So I rebranded myself and now I’m a full-time wig maker and doing makeup and brow services.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It was never a smooth road. My personal struggle was how do I get back to being a full-time hairstylist, and not have to work a full-time job. I stopped doing hair for years because every time I did do it, it left me struggling, I had to hustle day and night, I had to get clientele and keep them. You really have to be built for this industry.
Please tell us about Posh Perfections By Tasha Mack.
I recently changed my name and rebranded. My business is called Posh Perfections By Tasha Mack. I specialize in Wigs, Makeup, Brow Tinting and Waxing, and Shaping. I’m known for my custom touch or color on my wigs, and Brows, I love tinting brows, or just filling them in with a pencil. I try to get as much knowledge and stay skilled in every area I specialize in as the industry evolves and that’s what I’m most proud of, if I stay skilled, I’m able to customize my work the way I want to and that’s what set me apart from others.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a Diva (I’m still am), I was creative and artistic when I came to hair, my sisters were my walking billboards, they would let me do just about any style on them, half the time I didn’t know what I was doing , but it always turns out looking good lol. I knew from early childhood that’s it was nothing else I wanted to do but hair.
