Meet TaShea Scott of SheLuvLashes Glamtique in Duncanville

Today we’d like to introduce you to TaShea Scott.

TaShea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began lash extensions back in September 2015, right after I competed my MSW degree. There was a young lady I attended middle school with who was doing lashes, I went and let her do mine, I saw the extra money she was making and I had to go. I actually was a little “broke” and took out a payday loan to pay for the training. It was a 1 day training. I went home the next day and was super excited. I practiced, practiced and practiced (mainly on my baby sister). It was definitely a new experience for me. I am not a REAL beauty girl. I rarely do makeup, or lashes at the time, so I was highly intrigued by the culture of lashing itself. I read, reviewed and saw so many videos and blogs. Fast forward, in the midst of lashing, I was also full time single mother, full time worker as well as had started a PRN position at a behavioral health hospital I completed my graduate internship. During the midst of everything, I began a new career path that only lasted 1.5 months and I was laid off, February 2016. Tragic for me, the least to say. Thank God for Lashes!! I had eventually moved into a salon, January 2016 and I was literally lashing at least 4 people 3 days a week. It was insane to me. I even had people asking me to train them and I was terrified. One girl harped on me that I finally gave in and I am happy I did because now I thoroughly love giving off this info of the lash business by doing mini workshops with other women.

SheLuvLashes Glamtique became existent thanks to having amazing clients. I was having some issues with the salon environment I was at and also fell into hardships of clientele and finances during the summer 2016. I reached out to someone I considered to be a mentor June 2016 because I felt I was on my lash artist deathbed and she told me via text her consultation pricing and at that moment, I threw my phone, tears ran down my eyes and I was overwhelmed, hurt and felt alone in this business. It was at that moment, I truly fell on my hands and knees and I prayed and prayed for guidance and strength to grow.

During August/September ’16, I had lost clients and even had to move back into my home to lash clients. There are 2 women in particular that I felt God placed in my presence to deliver a message to basically keep pushing and have faith. One of my clients contacted me with information for the space I where I am currently located. I went to give a deposit on my current location not knowing if I would even have enough money to provide for my children the rest of the month, but I took a deep breath and paid a deposit for a suite and didn’t even move in until 2 months later because I was so nervous, afraid and scared. I had so much support from clients and a few people who told me to just go for it.

Now, I am happy to say that I have what I call my “mini, full service Glamtique”. And currently, I am now the owner of 2 suites in the same location (3 doors from one another). I never imagined I would “outgrow” the area I am in now in such a short amount of time. I am happy with growth. And again, it was an anxious feeling of excitement and nervousness. One suite is used for hair and braiding services and the other will be for lash extensions and makeup services.

Has it been a smooth road?
This definitely was not a smooth road. It was very different for me. As I mentioned before, I am not the beauty girl. I was a corporate America, 9-5 girl; who went to school to increase her income and job status. So, shifting to becoming a business owner in the beauty field was definitely a shift. Although, I am not a stranger to the salon life because my mother has been a cosmetologist since I was a baby girl, I knew a few of the kinks. I struggled with finances, building my clientele, keeping track of the “small things” and finances as well. It has opened my eyes to so many other responsibilities and possibilities in being a salon owner which is how I decided to incorporate the hair and makeup aspect.

I would say my biggest struggle was marketing and having to basically learn so much, and still learning on how to build a business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with SheLuvLashes Glamtique – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am happy to say that I have what I call my “mini, full service Glamtique”. We offer eyelash extension services, micro-blading, hair care services (including dreading and braids), makeup and facials for women of all races. My salon is very diverse, serene and most of all its a place I want any woman to come in feeling welcomed, naturally beautiful and leaving feeling twice as lovely.

I specialize in Eyelash extensions or Semi-permanent eyelashes which are a very healthy and naturally looking lash process that many women have converted to opposed to the strip lashes or individual lashing. I personally am known for my lash extensions; however, I have other talented cosmetologists, makeup artists and braiding specialists who are amazing at what they do.

I am extremely proud of SheLuvLashes because it was something I built and am still building from the roots. I did not know where I was going nor what I was doing when I started this journey. To see the growth just from December 2016 when I moved into my space until now is mind blowing to me.

I feel I am set apart from others because first and foremost I set my foundation on religious beliefs. I pray when I step into the salon daily, when I lash each client and I keep a very serene and loving environment. I also have a diverse background and cater to women of all races, ages and cultures. I do not limit my talents at all. I love what I do and take absolute pride in making sure each client is satisfied with their services. I also am able to cater to any woman young or seasoned who is seeking a certain lash look. I don’t limit myself to only doing the glamourous lashes nor the natural look, I can do it all. I can create a look from looking at one’s eye shape or from what they tell me they are looking for. Too often I hear a woman tell me, “I wanted this look and ended up leaving a different lash tech with what ‘she’ wanted to do”. I do my best to give them exactly the look they are wanting. Also, my other ladies are not the “well known” stylists, MUA’s etc. but we each are talented and take so much pride in our craft that it is felt and seen once you step into our salon.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas is where I was born and raised. So, I am biased and LOVE it. I enjoy seeing the growth of our city. This is home. My only dislike is the hidden opportunities of our city. There are several hidden and seen talents here in Dallas but it’s not as noticed or expanded as I believe it can be.
