Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Hassan.
Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always felt in my element when creating! I grew up both an athlete and an artist, always trying to find a balance between the two. Softball was fast-paced, full speed, one play to the next! Photography allowed me to slow down, stop time, and captured a single moment. I think having a background in both has made me even more successful at what I do now. The hard work and dedication through softball and the creative and artistic side of photography led me to Oklahoma Christian University! I studied Photography there as well as sports wellness, and biblical studies. Throughout high school and college, I started to photograph family and friends but it wasn’t until after college that I really started to pick up business! I loved running my own business and soon connected with who is now my best friend and the second half of Stellar Moon, Jordan McKee.
Being with someone whose mind was right on track with mine, made creating that much more exciting! She started learning under me, second shooting for me, and going on all of my sessions! We quickly learned that we work great together and that the combination of our individual skills, made for a dynamic team. We both have so much in common but specifically our love for astrology, hence the name Stellar Moon! I think being a female duo really sets us apart in the industry. Two sets of eyes, two creative minds, and two times the hard work. We are constantly learning, adapting, growing, and pushing each other to be better and better!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think anything that is embedded so deep in your heart is going to have its ups and downs. Being a creative is full of bumps in the road. Some of the main things I have struggled with are the constant need to be creating, feeling unaccomplished if you did NOT create that day, or just feeling like what you did create wasn’t enough. Social media is a beast of its own, but especially in the creative world. Spending so much time and effort on an image, and then not getting the feedback you want can really knock you down as an artist. Recently I have learned that when I create the photos that make me feel inspired, it inspires others, and I start to get more of the feedback I was hoping for all along!
Please tell us about Stellar Moon Photography.
We are a female photography duo working together to capture magic moments. We specialize in families, children, newborn, weddings, seniors, maternity, couples. etc.! You name it, we capture it. We are known for our fun colored hair, hats, and moody yet bright edits! I think what we are most proud of AND what sets us apart can be answered all in one. We don’t just take photos, we create art. Our before and afters are a complete 180. We use different tones and coloring as well as retouching to create a dramatic and eye-catching photo, that looks completely different than it did straight out of camera. We love taking colors and transforming them into a more artistic and stylized look.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the events leading up to where I am now shaped me into the photographer I have become! Would I have loved to have had that Nikon D850 8 years ago? Absolutely, but working with a camera that wasn’t as good made me learn how to edit incredibly well. There are so many things I do now, that I didn’t back then, but again the process of learning and finding my style as a photographer has only made me excel that much more!
