Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Mondick.
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a proud Texan, born and raised in this great state. After graduating from Flower Mound High School, I ventured out to pursue higher education at Hawaii Pacific University on the beautiful island of Oahu. My passion for sports and fitness led me to spend time in Australia, where I worked with elite athletes and coaches, sharpening my skills and gaining valuable experience. In 2013, I opened Rival Cheer, a successful competitive cheerleading and recreational tumbling facility. Recently, I decided to take my dedication to serve the community to the next level and ran for the Texas House in 2021. It has been an incredible journey so far, and I am excited about what the future holds.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the road has not been entirely smooth. Running a small business comes with its own set of challenges and obstacles. In the early days, I struggled with managing customer expectations and finding and retaining quality staff. As the business grew, I learned the importance of clear communication and setting expectations with customers and employees.
The pandemic brought its own set of challenges, with lockdowns and changing regulations affecting our operations. However, it also presented an opportunity to pivot and adapt to changing circumstances. I learned to embrace the challenges and find creative solutions to keep the business running.
One of the most significant lessons I learned is the importance of being flexible and adaptable. In the face of adversity, it is crucial to remain positive and find new ways to serve your customers and staff. Taking care of your mental and emotional well-being is also essential, as the stress of running a business can be overwhelming at times.
The road may have been bumpy, but I wouldn’t trade the experiences for anything. I am grateful for the lessons learned and the opportunities to grow and evolve. Running a small business has been an enriching journey, and I am excited about the future.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Starting out on a new venture can be both exciting and daunting, but my advice, though cleche, is to never give up on your dreams. When I started Rival Cheer, there were many times when I felt overwhelmed and uncertain, but I learned to embrace the challenges and turn them into opportunities.
One of the most crucial things to remember is the importance of getting out of your comfort zone. Starting a business requires taking risks and trying new things, and it is essential to be creative and innovative in order to succeed. Don’t be afraid to try new approaches or experiment with new ideas. Some of the most successful businesses come from taking calculated risks and trying new things.
Another piece of advice is to never stop learning. The business landscape is constantly changing, and it is essential to stay informed and be open to new ideas and approaches. Attend events, network with other business owners, and continuously seek out new knowledge and insights.
Finally, remember that success does not happen overnight. Building a successful business requires patience, perseverance, and a never-give-up attitude. Keep pushing forward, stay focused on your goals, and never lose sight of why you started in the first place.
In conclusion, starting out can be challenging, but it is an exciting and rewarding journey. Embrace the challenges, get out of your comfort zone, be creative and innovative, and never stop learning. I wish you all the best on your journey to success!
