Meet Taylor Williams of Lifeologie in Dallas/Cedar Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Williams.

Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At the age of five years old, I experienced my very first trauma. My mother was murdered by her abusive husband when she no longer wanted to remain in such a toxic marriage. Just four years later, was my second experience of trauma, when my father lost all of his mobility in a sports accident and became paraplegic. At nine years old, one of my parents was deceased and the other parent was now bound to a wheelchair. Growing up in Inglewood, California, in a very low socioeconomic neighborhood, was when I discovered at a very young age that the average person who grew up in impoverished areas had the ability to have some sort of REVERSE role model mindset. At an early age I discovered that life was actually RICH with examples of what I did not want to be, so I just did the opposite of what I saw and became my own role model. In 2013, I was in a car accident that left me hospitalized for three months. It was then that I realized that as my body was healing, but my mind had to heal as well from the trauma. I then became obsessed with psychology, therapy, and neuropsychology and that is what leads me to become a psychotherapist.

We are all human and experience our own battles in which we will all have to fight at some point; I just want to ensure my clients they do not have to fight alone. With social media at an all-time high, so many people suffer from so many intrusive thoughts, “I need to make more money, I need to have this type of career to be successful, I need to have a certain body type or drive a certain car” and if we are not self-aware, these intrusive thoughts can cause us to place irrational demands and unnecessary needs on ourselves thus leading to feelings of anxiousness, depression, shame and stress just to name a few. Most people get annual checkups with their primary care physicians just to ensure their bodies are healthy or even to help prevent problems before they even occur. By getting the right health services, screenings, and treatments, you are taking steps that help your chances of living a longer, healthier life. People will go to great lengths to make sure their bodies are healthy by dieting, exercising, becoming vegan, practicing yoga, etc. But what about the mind?. Research has shown that talk therapy can change the brain, not only does it have a significant impact and lasting effects on mental health but it also can cause the brain to be more healthy as well.

Has it been a smooth road?
As a college student, working a full-time job, while simultaneously completing clinicals and all the while trying to maintain a healthy social life, the road has not been smooth at all, but very well worth it. When you find a career/ job or even a hobby that you are truly and whole -heartily genuinely passionate about, it truly seems like you never really “work” a day in your life. In order to be successful, a person’s work ethic is directly correlated to their productivity. Eric Thomas advised that “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.” There are no short cuts, at least not in my life, but I have truly enjoyed the good, the bad and the indifferent on this journey thus far. I try to surround myself with a great support system that remains to keep me encouraged when I feel like sometimes I just can’t go any further. Most importantly, I ask God to always guide my footsteps and that if anything is for me that he will always make it known. Lastly, I always remember that the road that I am paving is not for me but for others behind me. Mental health remained on the sidelines for so long but it is now in the game and becoming the center of conversation nationally.

I truly desire to change the way we think about mental health and emphasize the importance of mental health, especially in our black communities. Simple things mentioned about mental health such as Dr. Joy Harden Bradford explained how our mental health is impacted by lack of sleep, or all the hours spent on Instagram which can negatively impact the way we feel about ourselves. Mental health is so stigmatized that I believe it is important to also emphasis mental wellness and that our mental health has to be taken care of.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lifeologie – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am so excited to be a part of Lifeologie! We are a collaborative group of 30+ therapists who creatively find solutions to stuck problems. We bring our “what box?” approach and relentless commitment to our work with adults, teens, children, elders, couples and families. I specialize in providing individual, couples and young adult therapy, including interracial couples and couples within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. I also work with individuals who struggle with stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues as well as relationships who are dealing with infidelity, lack of intimacy, communication and trust issues. Through the therapeutic process, I explore the things that are causing you the most stress, and together we will work through those difficulties. My life’s mission is summed up in three words Uplift, Empower and Encourage. My greatest desire is to help you become the best version of yourself. Life can sometimes catch us off guard. During this journey, I will explore past events, present realities, and future possibilities. What I love most about being a helping professional is seeing people accept themselves for who they are, loving themselves where they are and being OK with not being OK.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
One of my favorite things about Dallas is that I truly believe that it has one of the best skylines that I have ever seen. I love areas like Deep Ellum in Dallas and frequent mostly for the restaurant and not so much the nightlife, but I recently discovered Brick N Bones which was truly phenomenal. White Rock Lake Bike Trail is also another one of my favorites in the Spring and Summer times, as I try to hibernate as much as possible during the colder seasons. Besides the obvious shopping, young professionals and friendly TEXANS, I absolutely love Dallas food and the Dallas Farmers Market! What I like the least about Dallas are the drivers. There are so many accidents almost every day and it just really makes me anxious being on the highways out here. I live in the Suburbs and I do not like all of the toll roads out there, I just have not grasped the concept of paying to drive on the freeway. Lastly, the heat in Dallas is so uncomfortable, I am accustomed to a breeze and being able to go lay out on the beach and in Dallas, there is no escape, I have just learned not to leave my house until after 6 pm when it is hot.
