Today we’d like to introduce you to Ted Blair.
Ted, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The Vive Coffee shop is a ministry of Livingway Church. The name “Vive” is a Latin-based word that means life. We want to be a place of life and culture. We want to be a place for the community to connect and for encouragement. We are also a venue that is available for special events of all kinds. Something we do that is distinctive is that all our prices are a suggested donation amount rather than a set price amount; people pay what they are able or desire to pay. This enables us to serve those around us in a unique way.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We started the coffee bar at the end of 2019 – shortly after Covid-19 hit, and like many other businesses, we opened and closed several times. It has been challenging the last couple of years, but we are going strong and look forward to all that is ahead.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a pastor, and my heart is for the community to know God’s love, no matter who you are. The Vive coffee focuses on two major things – 1. making great coffee drinks and 2. listening to people and being available to talk and encourage those that come in. If they want to be left alone to work or relax, we respect that, but if they want to talk about their day and need encouragement, we are ready to do that as well. We are a small coffee shop with a big heart for people. We have worked hard to build a place that is comfortable and aesthetic. As I mentioned earlier, something we do that is distinctive is that all our prices are a suggested donation amount rather than a set price amount; people pay what they are able or desire to pay.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Don’t give up, and stay faithful. Strive to stay hopeful and patient with those around you. You can affect the atmosphere by your attitude and how you respond to trials.
