Today we’d like to introduce you to Teena Petree.
Teena , can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When my brother was a small child, he became very ill. After his rehabilitation restored him back to health, I was inspired to start my own career in physical therapy. I dedicated myself to learning the human body and understanding how it works while studying at a top physical therapy school. But the best understanding came from one-on-one interaction with every individual patient. One of the most important things I have learned is how every individual is unique and so, too, every treatment program has to be unique.
I have worked as a physical therapist for more than 30 years and I have owned my own company for almost 18 years. My mission was just to give someone back their lifestyle. I take that very seriously, when someone suffers from a painful accident or traumatic debilitating disease, a person feels stripped of their sense of self. To help them relieve their pain and fulfill their potential for a healthy lifestyle, we can offer their life again. This gives me the greatest sense of satisfaction and makes physical therapy my passion, not just a job.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road by any means. There will always be difficulty when you are accomplishing great things, and I never forget that! But one of our obstacles have been the economy and the health care bills in general. Insurances have cut so much that it was been a lot of rough patches in our path, they now reimburst 50% less than they used to. Therefore, we have had to become even more resilient and efficient in our overhead, being careful to ever cut our patient care needs. There is a tight rope we have to walk at all times. Keeping the patients’ needs first is always a successful path in my eyes.
