Meet Teresa Williams of Parent on Purpose Coach in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Williams.

Teresa, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

After 17 years of being an educator and sitting through many parent-teacher conferences, I realized a common theme – the parents did not realize how not properly structuring the daily lives of their children at home had a direct correlation to the impact on their child’s learning experience. I found that during the parent-teacher conferences, I was providing parents with simple tools and strategies on how to get structured at home for student success. It wasn’t until I read an article about parent coaching that I realized that’s what I was doing–coaching parents.

During the conferences, my go-to strategy for parents was as simple as have them implement a schedule for their child at home. Children crave structures, but I found that many parents were unaware of the importance of structure and how it supported the learning experience for their child at school and how they functioned at home. Once the parents implemented the strategy of setting a schedule for their child and saw the benefits at home and the improved learning experience of their child, they begin to seek me for additional guidance on parenting.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been smooth, but it has been enlightening. My major struggle is making the time to accomplish it all. I am still working my 9 to 5, so I have to take my own advice and create a schedule for working in my business. I have learned not to be hard on myself when life happens and interrupts by time planned to work on my business.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
As a Parent Empowerment Coach, I work with parents with children between the ages of 5-13 to help them gain clarity, identify parenting goals and create a practical plan to address their current parenting challenges. I work with parents one-on-one to achieve these goals. I also work with parent groups, such as PTAs, as well as facilitate interactive parent workshops to share practical strategies on how to create a harmonious home life.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I consider Arlington home. I have been a resident for almost 30-years. I like the diversity of Arlington, I am a lover of nature and a foodie. So being near the Fort Worth Zoo, Botanical Gardens, and the plethora of eating options makes my heart smile. Arlington is a growing suburb which offers economic growth and a variety of networking opportunities for small businesses.
