Meet Terrence O’Flaherty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrence O’Flaherty.

Hi Terrence, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Thanks for the opportunity. My name is Terrence O’Flaherty, I am 31 years of age and I am a Songwriter, DJ, Record Producer, Traveler, and car enthusiast, & I love to practice meditation to fuel my creativity and passion projects.

I originally am from Santa Barbara, which is the heart of the Central Coast of California. The Coast had a lot to offer me while growing up and influenced a variety of musical tastes and styles that I carry with me today. I grew to Love the laid-back sounds of the beach, Cruising on my skateboard around the town, hiking in the SB mountains, and writing and performing songs with my friends in our high school band which we called “The Beat Police” was a fusion of Funk-Surfer Reggae Rock. We recorded a couple of demos in the late 2000s and that’s where my passion for creating and recording music was born.

In the 2010’s I wanted to pursue music full time. So, I moved myself to Los Angeles and spent the next eleven years there trying to find my sound in a mix of a chaotic city, While in LA I also had an airline job which allowed me to travel to different destinations all over the globe. It was a chaotic time in my life but it opened up my eyes to other cultures and other ways of life that I was unaware of all over the world. I took it all in as much as I could but that lifestyle was never intended to work for my creative purpose. I was always on the go and it was hard to stay focused on one goal mind. So, I decided to leave my airline job and give all my energy to the music. During that time, I recorded 50+ songs as a solo producer and had features from a variety of artists that I have met from all over the states in my times of traveling.

Fast forward to the 2020s and I was still pursuing the same goal, but life had changed drastically for all of us at the start of the new decade. LA just did not feel the same and I wanted to try out a new city. A family of mine recently moved out to Dallas, TX. in 2020 and I wanted to reconnect with them. In 2021 I made the move to Dallas and couldn’t be happier with the decision. I love all that Texas has to offer and the Southern Hospitality is a real thing. They say everything is bigger in Texas and that is absolutely true. Since I’ve moved here, I have had nothing but BIG opportunities, plenty of DJ gigs, and amazing experiences. I look forward to what Dallas has to offer and I Love calling Dallas my new home.

Thank You.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A bit of both. Getting out of California was a big change for me and it took a tremendous amount of work, but when you are fully committed to one cause with no distractions to change your course that’s when I notice things always fall into place.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a bit of both a Creative person and a working person. I am a Song Writer at heart but I also am a Car Guy. When I’m not working on music, I am Upgrading & moving my f150 or my Ford Mustang. If I’m not working on my own vehicle, I am fixing glass or installing a part on someone’s else vehicle. I recently taught myself how to change the glass and camera system on a Tesla Model 3 and Model Y and that was a fun and rewarding experience learning how to work on a car that is seeming to lead us into the future.

I am a self-taught music producer and mechanic. I taught myself how to play the piano and produce music and how work on certain vehicles. I think the self-taught aspect sets me apart from others., I am most proud of some of the music I made with other artists the year before I left LA. During the pandemic in 2020, I wrote some of the best music I’ve ever created and I am extremely proud of the music that we all created together. I will leave links below to some of my favorite songs that I produced.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why?
Staying true to your purpose. I believe we all have something we were put here on this earth to do. Sometimes it can be hard to find work that you are passionate about. But once you start working on something you love, it really doesn’t feel like work at all.

I love to live by this quote
