Today we’d like to introduce you to Tessa Jones
Hi Tessa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2019 I built 6 tents for my daughter’s birthdays to make their slumber parties special. Slumbertopia is inspired by my three daughters. I am a SAHM who loves to sew and craft. After posting my daughter’s parties on my social media many of my friends asked me to do their children’s parties. My intention was not to have it become a business but after they posted I was getting more inquiries. I got busy and built 9 more tents for a total of 15 tents. Four months after my girls birthdays I launched Slumbertopia. When I started there were very few businesses who do what I do and not many people had seen anything like it before. When I shared it on our local Facebook page Rockwallian I got so much positive feedback and support from our community that Slumbertopia exploded over night. As my girls got older I wanted to create something new to make their parties special as they out grew the little tents. I started brainstorming and wanted to transform a whole room into something magical. I love how the big wedding tents look with the curtain lights and that was my inspiration for the Big Tent. The problem to this idea was that it didn’t exist on a smaller scale. My only option was to build the frame and sew the cover. I love a challenge and this project took months to complete. I launched the Big Tent in 2020 and it’s been a hit ever since for all ages. I created and built a canopy set up when I was asked to do a larger party for our local high school cheer team in 2022. It has been a great addition to Slumbertopia and is very popular with teens. After getting multiple inquires for outdoor glamping in 2022, I added a Bell tent into the mix and is perfect for spring and fall parties when the weather is nice. In 2023 while planning our family vacation I was looking at cabanas at the resort we were staying at. I was thinking how fun would it be to transform a back yard pool party into a mini resort with cabanas. Again there wasn’t a smaller scale of cabanas that would fit most back yard pools. I had to think outside the box and combined a beach cabana that was the perfect dimensions and built frames for the drapes and created the pool side cabanas. They are great to add extra shade for the hot Texas summers elevating your party. Slumbertopia now offers 50 little tents, 15 teepees, 10 canopies, big tent, bell tent, 4 pool side cabanas and I have more ideas in the works behind the scenes. I have created over 50 different themes, majority are custom made as I strive to be different and provide quality decor to my clients. I never imagined that I would be where I am today doing something that I absolutely love. It’s a lot of hard work, heavy lifting, sleepless nights, but seeing children’s faces when they see their Slumbertopia parties is priceless. It’s something that I hold close to my heart.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge for Slumbertopia was when Covid hit. I was just getting started, everything was going great and I was really busy. When everything shut down so did my business. There were so many fears but my community was there for me when I was able to start doing business again. I’m forever grateful for their continuous support and friendships I have made the past 5 years.

Slumbertopia is a slumber party business and specialize in children, teen, and adult parties. I’m known for transforming living areas into unforgettable experiences. What sets me apart from others is that I custom build and create new ideas that no one else offers. I strive to be different and offer set ups that are uniquely one of a kind. I hand make most of my decor inventory and tents setting me apart from others. I want the readers to know that I truly put my heart into designing and creating memories for their children.
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing the joy in children’s faces when they see their party. So many emotions go through their little minds when they see their party. Some are speechless, some cry, and some scream with excitement. It’s what makes my heart happy.
