Today we’d like to introduce you to THAD BONDURIS.
Hi THAD, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first came to the DFW Metroplex over 50 years ago, to attend UNT (NTSU), and have been a professional “working musician” in the North Texas area ever since.
My work has always been divided between teaching music and performing, either with groups or a solo; as
guitarist, vocalist, or bassist.
I hold a Masters degree in Music Education from the University of North
Texas. My one-man private teaching studio had evolved into a medium-scale music
school, which he has recently sold, but I’m still teaching online.
For over 30 years, I led and booked public and private events, with outfits ranging from gypsy-swing band Le Not-So-Hot Klub du Denton, The Roux (Dixieland/NOLA-inspired music), as well as variety cover bands The Fun-Addix, The Echoes, and Boo-Boo Jang.
I also play lead guitar in the Dallas area’s Dwight Yoakam tribute band Local Yoakam, R&B/Gopel band Lady Cass & the Fellas, and and Aquarius’ All-Star Band.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The music performance business has had its highs & lows, but the music school ownership business (after decades of steady cash flow success)–finally took a dive in the late 2010s, due to sudden unprecedented competition from venues with corporate venture capital, and literally “big-boxing” music lessons….ALL of us “little guys” are gone.
But my recent unsolicited student growth has been a result of “legacy”–for someone semi retired, I’m working far more than I’d expected.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I pride myself in the results of my teaching methods, which have had resounding multigenerational results; former students, children and grandchildren of former students still seek me out.
I also pride myself in the ability to make any band sound good.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
People skills, patience, and knowing when to talk and when not.
