Meet Theresa Sue of BLCKPRINT in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Theresa Sue.

Theresa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started college from the age of sixteen, so finding a job without requiring my parent permission led me to start designing logos for income. As time went on, I found a passion in technology as it progressed into website designing. By my senior year of college, I went looking for an internship, and my thought process was “Go Big, or Go Home”, so I decided to apply for an internship with the Dallas. Cowboys. After thousands of applicants, I was selected and my path of pursuing technology forged on.

After a year with the Cowboys, I was recommended for a position at the Houston Astros, where I then started to think long term. As a black woman in sports and technology, it was a rarity and it built a strength in me to aim to run a business on my own. I knew I wasn’t quite ready, so I took one more job with Major League Baseball that would help me learn the business element of running a company. Year three into working for MLB, I founded BLCKPRINT, a social collaboration app for small businesses and content creators. I saw a major gap in the resources and tools in such a growing digital era and wanted to fill that and connect as many people utilizing my own networks as I’ve built over the years. Today, BLCKPRINT is a four-person woman team with a growing community.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not, from the challenges of maneuvering corporate tech as a young black woman to becoming a single mother along the road and continuing on to pursue my dreams. There have been many times, I asked myself, why? Why, do this to myself… the stress, limited social life, unbalanced personal relationships, but it has seriously been all of the struggles that kept me going. I figure if I went through all of this, I mine as well keep going. I am much stronger than I think, I’ve also been able to learn and assist other people on their rising struggles as well.

BLCKPRINT – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
BLCKPRINT is an app that connects all roles of business, from investors, consumers, entrepreneurs, creatives and more. The purpose of the app is to create a community of like-minded individuals that can help grow skills, reach other networks, and receive funding. We provide masterclasses weekly to help our community ask questions to the experts in the field they are achieving to be apart of. In the wake of the pandemic, it’s been more important to take our networking and evolve it with our digital era.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Hiring my team, hands down. So cliche, but I wouldn’t be anywhere without them. Sierra Hicks, Aubrei Dowdy, and Julia Beck. Those moments of mental struggle are easily turned around when you have a team reminding you why you started. Choosing this group has been my proudest moment, not my first sale, but my team.
