Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas McEnroe.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Thomas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up, I was always a firearms enthusiast and even shot competitively in high school. After graduation from UTA, I dabbled a bit working in the firearms industry. I worked in a variety of roles ranging from instructor to sales and finally gunsmithing. It was in gunsmithing that my true passion was discovered. After multiple requests from friends and friends of friends to customize firearms, I began a small business specializing in the enhancement of pistols. After two years I was able to resign from a full time job and take my business from part time to full time. We now offer customization to pistols, shotguns and rifles as well as manufacture our own pistols and rifles.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Over the course of the last several years there’s been a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Especially in the early years when I was working a full time job and coming home every night to work an additional 5-6 hours, it was tough. I graduated from UTA with a science degree, not a business degree so it was a learning curve for not only the firearms industry but business in general. Learning how to run a business from the ground up has been a challenging yet rewarding experience.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about TXT Custom Gun Works – what should we know?
We are a custom firearms manufacturer. What that means is, we can enhance your firearm or build one specifically to meet your needs. Enhancement in general is but not limited to: retexturing the grip for a more ergonomic and secure fit in your hand, upgrading triggers, sight replacement, shotgun and rifle upgrades and some machining. We are also classified as an NFA manufacturer which means we can either sell or build short barreled rifles, short barreled shotguns and silencers.
I’m proud of being able to enhance the tools that local, state and federal law enforcement officers utilize daily (with a discount for them of course). As well as being the first manufacturer in the country chosen to enhance the new CZ P-10C which was featured in the firearms blog.
We are set apart from others because not only does my work speak for itself but my customer service and ability to adapt to my customers’ needs enable me to really try new things and innovate at another level.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Work ethic, what that means to me is not only a commitment to my customers but also to my craft. I’m always looking to learn new techniques and hone my skill set. Working for yourself is not easy but you have to have a strong work ethic to make it work.
