Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Buchanan.
Tia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey started with Xzotic Glam Lounge in 2016, I was to selling Lipstick and Lipgloss. My 1st six months of business was great and things were looking good until 12/9/16 when my aunt passed unexpectedly. I found myself slipping into a slight depression, I was unable to focus and to make matters worse 3/17/17 happened to me. I was attacked by my ex-boyfriend and my house was destroyed. I was left with nothing and forced to start over from scratch. All the money I had I used to purchase work clothes etc. I was too embarrassed to ask for outside help because I’ve always been that one person to have her stuff together so I decided to suffer in silence. Between dealing with grief and trying to find myself again, I went through an eight month battle with depression. Lets fast forward to 2018, I was on Facebook being nosy when I came across a flyer offering lash extension training, I wasted no time reaching out to the young lady offering the course. By March of 2018 I was ready to rebrand myself as a certified lash tech, by September of 2018 I was enrolled in school to become a licensed lash artist and here we are a little over two years later I’m now a licensed lash artist, I’m at peace and I’m living.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to rebuilding my brand and myself has definitely been a tough one! I’ve spent many restless nights up brainstorming ways to make myself better than I was. Xzotic is mines and I wanted to continue as Xzotic regardless of how many logos I purchased due to me trying to find the right name. My biggest challenge thus far has been standing out. Once I received my license to lash it felt like everyone was lashing but once I realized I had to come with something a little different than the next my clientele began to slowly grow. Although I still haven’t mastered social media marketing, I have mastered the old school marketing technique ” Word of Mouth”. As introverted as I am I can honestly say it’s no room in this line of work for shyness, you have to be people friendly when working with the public, there’s no way around it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Xzotic Lash Addict story. Tell us more about the business.
Here at Xzotic Lash Addict, we specialize in making our clients feel sexy while giving them an experience that will leave them addicted to lash extensions. My most proud moment as a company was the day I officially registered my business with the county and received my license. I was able to do all of this within a year while working two jobs, lashing and of course going to school. Our goal is to build lasting relationships. Everything doesn’t have to be about a sale, I rather accommodate my client if and when I can verses charging extra or providing poor service because my client may need a little extra attention that week, etc. Educating my clients on how to care for their extensions has become a thing with me, I can’t assume my client is aware of something just because she’s familiar with wearing extensions. I can honestly say I’ve gone out the way to make sure my clients are good before, during and after being serviced.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I would say luck hasn’t played a huge role in my life or business. My favorite quote is ” You can’t cheat the grind” you get in what you put out and I’ve worked hell of hard to get the little shine I have gotten.
