Today we’d like to introduce you to Tianna Barber.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started less than a year ago. I found myself working (yet another) job I felt unfulfilled in. I’ve always been a creative person—as a kid, I created my own characters or drew cartoons I saw on TV. Around December 2020, I had decided I wanted to work for myself, by any means necessary, so I taught myself graphic design.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle was financial. Art is an expensive hobby. I am a digital artist, so I need to constantly have enough money to be able to afford the software that I use, as well as any additional drawing tablets, sketchbooks, or miscellaneous supplies I may need down the road.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I mostly do character designs or portraits of my favorite celebrities. At the beginning of my career, I dabbled in t short design, and my most favorite design is one that denounces succumbing to a soul-numbing “9-5” lifestyle that our capitalistic society praises. What makes me stand as an artist is that I don’t make art for other people, despite wanting to be discovered. It is more important to me that my art speaks to what I believe and is an authentic reflection of myself.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I’m feisty. I have a very quiet demeanor, but I know how to turn it off when I feel passionate about something or if I feel slighted.
