Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Nicole.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started digging into the modeling industry back in 2006 at the age of 17 after a high school teacher/family friend continued to suggest I should be a model. I was always entertained by modeling, acting, and singing. I actually was in choir and theater in school and took voice lessons growing up. My dream growing up was to become a triple threat with acting, modeling, and music. But as time went by and I started playing basketball and those dreams slipped away until I was injured the summer before my freshman year in college. I decided to take a year off and put my basketball shoes up.
When I started modeling back in 2006/2007, there was really no place for me, because the plus size industry was really non-existent and I was not considered a “True Plussize” because I was a size 10. I was able to do a few fashion shows and photoshoots but life started getting real in the sense where I started dealing with real-life adult issues. I had my son in 2013 and moved back to Dallas in 2016. I was working as a claims adjuster just trying to provide for my son, but I was just very unhappy and depressed because I was just living life not loving the life I was living. So, I made the decision to start doing the things I love to do, which lead to me going back to school for my Nursing degree and get back to modeling career.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been far from smooth on my journey. Around the time I was working as a claims adjuster I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and PTSD from trauma from my childhood. This is a neverending battle but through acknowledgment, therapy, and self-love, I’m pushing forward. My modeling is a stress relief in my life cause once I get in front of the camera or hit the runway, I get to be someone else and forget about whatever is going on. Other struggles encountered were/are body image, after I had my son I went from a size 12 to size 18/20. My bust went from a C cup to a H cup. Also, over the years I’ve developed a skin issue where I have keloids growing across my upper and lower back which did and continues to mess with my self-confidence. But I’ve chosen to embrace everything about me because as a public figure I don’t want to come off as perfect. I want to be relatable to women and girls everywhere.
Tiara Nicole – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m really all over the place lol. Right now I’m strictly Editorial, High-fashion, Print, Lifestyle, and Runway modeling, plus a full-time nursing student and advocate for women’s health and mental health in the black community. As time goes by I will dig into acting and music. But I don’t want to pile my plate too high especial being a single mother, my main priority is my son and making sure he always gets the best version of me.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
So far the proudest moment is taking a stand for me, Tiara Nicole. Just by the fact, I can say I have an active modeling career is a big accomplishment because it means I’m taking my dreams, turning them into goals, and turning my goals into accomplishments. So many people have dreams but never act on them out of fear of stepping out of a comfort zone and failing. To say I’ve faced my fears and now thriving while living out my dreams is a huge accomplishment. And if I fail I’m ok with that cause at least I failed trying.
