Meet Tierra Bond of Dare 2 Dance Training & Performance in Mesquite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Bond.

Tierra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My dance journey started when I was five years old when I joined the Pee Wee drill team and I fell in love. From Pee-Wee drill team, I began training, performing and competing with a private dance studio based out of Mesquite. Dance has given me access to people, places and stages that many have only dreamed of. It was when I returned home from college that I fell in love with teaching.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road to becoming a studio owner. It has been so worth it. When I started Dare 2 Dance in 2018, I was holding classes in the back of a gym with a team of 11 girls and two months into our classes, I became pregnant with my first child. I taught every single class until the night before I went into labor. After a successful first season, in April of 2019, I signed a lease for my first official studio and with that, our team more than doubled. Just at the close of our competition season, we were faced with the Corona Virus and shutting the studio down. I’ll be honest, it was scary but through virtual classes, we made it through! We are now back open and of course, with a longer list of safety precautions for our dancers and faculty.

Dare 2 Dance Training & Performance – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a competition dance studio with a focus on our training in Jazz Dance Technique, Acro and Choreography. I am most proud to be a black-owned business not only in the community but in this industry. The competition dance industry does lack diversity and I am changing that with my team. I want my girls to know that the sky is the limit for them, just because there isn’t anyone that looks like you in the room, you still belong. No matter what it is.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I would have to say my proudest moment has been the opening of our studio in Mesquite. It was not only because of me. It was because of the dancers and their parents who have believed in me, that we were able to put our name on the door.
