Meet Tierra Davis of The Hookah Queen in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Davis.

Tierra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The first time I ever tried hookah was in 2000, in college, while attending Florida A&M University. I stumbled upon a little hookah lounge there and was intrigued by the thought of “smoking fruit” lol. So, I brought my friends back and I was hooked ever since!

I started my Hookah business back in 2015 in Atlanta Georgia. I had lost my job and so it was the perfect opportunity to start my own business. Because hookah is so popular in Atlanta, the challenge was finding clubs that didn’t already have them.

A friend of mine, Kaylan, knew that I wanted to start a hookah business and informed me about an opportunity at a club that her cousin was working at. The guy I was dating at the time gave me the money to get my hookahs and supplies and it was on from there! From that club came other opportunities. I’ve always been a huge people person and I’m always networking, so I met a lot of people during that time. I ended up outsourcing hookah to about four clubs on the southwest side of Atlanta. My little business was booming! In the beginning, it was just me but then I ended up being blessed with my friend and business partner at the time, Tameka. She came in and helped me manage everything and we hired more beautiful girls to join our team! I had the business in Atlanta for three years before I moved to Dallas.

I was new to Dallas and had just had a baby so I didn’t really know anyone here to get my self out there. I decided to just pay it forward and step out on faith. I bought more hookahs and supplies and got my business cards and shirts made. I started reaching out to promoters and DJ’s and just putting myself out there. About two weeks later I got an opportunity to outsource hookahs to a brand new Liberian restaurant and Lounge called Monrovia lounge!!!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road and even now, sometimes, there are challenges. Initially, the challenge was finding an establishment that didn’t already have hookah. Once I was able to find one, the challenge has been consistency in business. It can be hit or miss sometimes. Some weeks we make a lot of money and some we don’t make any. I know that’s apart of business though so it’s ok.

The Hookah Queen – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Hookah Queen is a Hookah catering and outsourcing company that caters to clubs, lounges and private events. We specialize in providing great hookah with great customer service. What sets us apart is that we are consistent. Consistent with our service and consistent with the quality of our hookah. I am proud of my company because it started as a side hustle and has expanded past my expectations!! I can’t wait to see what 2020 holds!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
A huge thank you goes to my very first hookah girl turned business partner, Tameka Stevenson of Atlanta. She was there with me from the beginning and through the ups and downs.

Also my amazing hookah girls here in Dallas: Dhestiny, LaMonya, Nikki and Allante! I wouldn’t be able to do it without you! Also a big shoutout to Princess and Johnny of Monrovia lounge for giving me the opportunity to do business with them.
