Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Alfred.
Hi Tiffany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my interest in mental health when I used to be a hair stylist after High school. I enjoyed listening to my clients talk about their lives and ask for advice, but I mostly listened and offered understanding of their situation. I would have multiple clients tell me how good I was at listening and that coming to their hair appointment was their therapy. Eventually I decided to obtain my psychology degree. I am now a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor and a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor. Throughout my education, supervision and training, I have been fortunate to work in hospital settings, nonprofits, public schools and I have a private practice in Crowley.
While providing mental health services as a Special Education Counselor for an ISD, I began to notice that many challenges could not be addressed during the school day but that access to mental health services were difficult for some families to obtain. I also noticed some of the challenges the students were experiencing could have been addressed and possibly significantly reduced by working with their parents or the whole family system. I had a passion to dedicate more services to the family system.
I decided to open my private practice to help not only bridge the gap in the availability of mental health care in my community but to also affect change in the family system by working with the foundation of the family, couples. Since starting my private practice, I have helped numerous couples learn skills to repair their communication, notice and address the anxieties and fears in each other that are affecting the system and move forward together in ways that help them feel more seen, respected and loved. These changes have had a domino effect on the family system, helping the children also feel more seen, heard and connected.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As many small business owners/entrepreneurs know, it can be an uphill battle at times and I am no exception. From trying to figure out tax laws to the uncertainty of the economy, challenges are part of the deal. As a private practice clinician and mental health advocate, challenging myths about mental health and educating the public on what to expect during therapy can be a challenge. Helping people through the hard part of therapy so that they can come out of the other side of it, healthier and mentally stronger is great motivation that keeps me going through the struggles.
We’ve been impressed with Rejuvenate Counseling PLLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Rejuvenate Counseling, I provide multiple services. My specialties include counselor education, couples issues, anxiety, self concept and community mental health awareness.
I provide supervised experience and counselor education to clinical practicum students and licensed associate therapists on their journey to develop their counseling skills and professional identities.
I help couples get on the same page with issues such as communication, empathy, trust and connection. I help individuals who are struggling with issues such as anxiety, self regulation, depression, self esteem and boundaries and develop skills to address the challenges of life to reach their goals.
At Rejuvenate Counseling, part of my mission is to bridge the gap in availability of mental health services to the community. One of the ways I achieve this is by working with masters level clinicians in my practice, allowing them to provide a more affordable option for mental health services.
In addition to counselor education and therapeutic services, I also provide mental health awareness and education for schools and corporate companies and through speaking engagements and workshops.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My peace and happiness in life comes from both my personal and professional life. I enjoy spending time with my family, our pets, cooking, travel, music and the occasional binge-watch. Professionally, I enjoy having a career that allows me the time to devote to my family while helping others find their joy along the way. One of the most fulfilling aspects of being in the mental health field for me is providing a space for my clients to feel seen and understood while discovering something new about themselves or their partner that allows a deeper connection and ability for growth.
