Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Hughes.
Tiffany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I wanted to be a lash artist for a long time, actually, but two years ago I decided to make it happen. I was searching for a lash artist in the DFW area who could provide me with a full, yet natural-looking set of lash extensions that were long-lasting. It was then that I realized there was a need for this in my area. I decided to go to school to get licensed so that I could provide to others what I had been seeking: high quality, premium lash extensions that actually last and are easy to wear – as if they are your own lashes.
After I finished lash school in 2018, I then got certified by NovaLash, a well-known lash extension brand, which allowed me to learn their unique techniques and utilize their high-quality products in my business. After that, Honey + Lash was born. I started with offering Classic one-to-one lash extensions then developed my skills to offer a more advanced service called American Volume, which uses multiple thinner extensions on each natural lash to provide a fuller, thicker appearance. This technique created by NovaLash is unique in the area and is my most popular service. In order to learn American Volume, I traveled to Spain to train with one of the best lash artists in the industry, Tonje Fjeldberg Elshaug. She is renowned in the beauty industry and has won global lash competitions and has been featured at many beauty shows across the world. It is important for me to build my skills with the best in the industry. There’s no doubt that getting to the point I’m at today required hours and hours of hard work and practice – not only on honing in on my lash skills but learning how to run a business.
It makes me happy that I run a successful business that truly reflects who I am and what I live for: making women feel confident and beautiful while building lasting relationships. As a creative person with an entrepreneurial spirit, it has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not, but I would do it all again. In the beginning, I did not see how I was ever going to accomplish what I have today. Having to adapt to a new industry and learn new skills has been very challenging but exciting. Becoming a lash artist is not as easy as it seems, and it requires regular practice and a lot of determination. Many times I have had to sacrifice my only free time to work hard behind the scenes building my business. I’ve also had to balance a full-time job while treating Honey + Lash as my side job. This means taking clients late at night and during the weekend. And learning the skill alone is quite a struggle! It took me months before I was able to apply a full set, and even still I have moments that really challenge my patience and talent.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Honey + Lash – what should we know?
I’m Tiffany Hughes, founder and artist at Honey + Lash. I am a NovaLash-certified lash artist who specializes in Classic and American Volume lash extensions in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I am known for creating long-lasting, damage-free extensions by using premium products and physician-developed techniques. I use NovaLash adhesives which are oil-proof and instantly waterproof which means there’s no downtime with my services, and clients can continue using oil-based facial products. Honey + Lash extensions are also very durable and easy to wear. Clients come back once a month for their maintenance, and because of the unique technique I use, their extensions look natural as they shed between maintenance appointments.
I am proud that I have built a business with high standards of lash health, client education, and safe techniques. My clients love wearing Honey + Lash extensions because they don’t need to apply makeup everyday and they can roll out of bed gorgeous.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My number one supporter and mentor is my sister, Heather, who is not only a great coach but a successful lash extension and beauty expert. She has been and continues to be by my side as I build this business from the ground up. Having someone so close who is an expert in the field of lash extensions and safety has been a tremendous help. Building a lash business can feel lonely and confusing, so it’s definitely been a game-changer having her. I can also confidently say I would not be where I’m at without my loyal clients! I am all about building strong relationships with all of my clients, many of whom I consider close friends and family now. A lot of my business has been word-of-mouth, so I quite literally would not be in business without their support.
