Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Williams Evans.
Tiffany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Communicating through the written word has always helped me connect with myself and with others. Through writing, I could make sense of my world and my ideas, but I could also help others share their lives and stories. Funny, though I never thought of myself as a writer; it was simply something I enjoyed. It took a few college experiences to start me down that path – one of which included having a geology professor who, after reading a lab report, suggested I change my major from business to English. I did just that, and after overhearing other college professors complain about writing deficiencies among their incoming freshman, I knew where I would focus my attention.
Armed with a lifelong passion and a new dose of confidence and intel, I set out on my mission to help students fill gaps in their knowledge about writing and the processes associated with it. I was a homeschooling mother by that time, and I began volunteering to teach at local homeschool co-ops. Shortly thereafter, I began tutoring students one on one where I worked to help them eliminate the fear and dread associated with a blank white page. In so doing, my goal was to prepare more students to enter college with the writing skills they needed to tackle the assignments, rigor, and expectations of the professors they would soon encounter. My work also took me to the classroom, where I taught high-school English, yet it also detoured to the professional world, where I served as a magazine editor. There, for just more than a decade, I had the honor of interviewing, writing, and editing stories about our diverse business landscape. Our editorial provided a platform for others to meet countless minorities and women who were making their marks on every industry and emerging market imaginable. Regardless of where my career took me, the writing was at the center of it.
As time went on, I knew I could do more and reach more people through entrepreneurship. I took that leap of faith a few years ago and began pursuing Write Right University on a more full-time basis. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As the saying goes, “Nothing worth anything comes easy.” The years have been good to us, but competition has presented challenges. Still, the education landscape is vast, and there is no shortage of need. It also helps that we target a natural niche sector within the education industry in that our services are very specific to providing assistance with writing and other language-arts related courses. Furthermore, strategic partnerships and remaining focused on delivering superior service allow us to enjoy consistent growth.
Also, like nearly everyone else, COVID-19 has blanketed us with even more unique challenges. Without notice, we had to revamp, reconfigure, and restructure our operations from those centered on one-on-one and in-person instruction to entirely virtual offerings. Thankfully, the transition has been rather smooth. In fact, the virtual capabilities have opened up opportunities we had not considered. We are quite thankful for technological advances and parents who have been willing to pivot with us.
We’d love to hear more about Write Right University.
Write Right University offers virtual, one-on-one tutoring services (academic and professional) for students of all ages as well as other services, including virtual English and writing classes, education consulting, business writing, ghostwriting, and copy editing. It is my goal to help as many individuals as I can use writing as a tool to further connect with themselves and in so doing, gain the confidence and skills that will help them better communicate and connect with others.
The WRU client list runs the gamut: doctors, engineers, students from elementary to graduate school, business executives, entrepreneurs, ministers, and more. It is reflective of our tagline which reads, “When you just don’t know what to say.” We believe these words can apply to anyone, and as such, we are committed to helping anyone better communicate their hearts through writing.
While I am passionate about assisting each and every customer who graces the now virtual doors, I am most proud of the students who I’ve helped conquer what has been for them huge odds. It brings tears to my eyes when parents report that I helped their students pass their STAAR/EOC tests or that before coming to WRU, their child would not have dreamed of voluntarily picking up a book or written an essay but is now leading a book club. To know that I am making those kinds of differences is a blessing beyond my wildest imagination.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
So many words come to mind when I think about pathways to success – words like integrity, work ethic, and consistency but I feel like helpfulness is the word most important to my journey. I sincerely love helping others find success. Some have even said I am probably the best cheerleader. It’s true; it warms my heart to see others thrive, so if I can play a part in that, I have found success as well.
A prime example of this concept has come into play numerous times since the pandemic took hold. When schools closed this past March, my first inclination was to help parents who were struggling with the e-learning shift. As a former (and now current) homeschooling mom as well as an educator, I could identify with parents’ concerns and emotions, and I was eager to help. As the months drew on, helping children and families with summer learning and fall preparation keeps me very busy. Now, more than ever, parents have a lot of options to consider when it comes to educating their children, and I look forward to providing assistance in the months to come. In fact, many parents are considering homeschool for the first time. I now direct them to my homeschool website: www.homeschoolingnorthtexasmag.com for assistance in addition to any type of tutoring services I provide. My willingness to help others has contributed most to my success, and words cannot describe the level of gratitude I hold for those who trust me with their academic and professional needs.
