Today we’d like to introduce you to Tijuana.
Tijuana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey started in Denver, CO, where I was born and partially raised. I grew up in a huge family, my granny had seven children, so I had a bunch of cousins with a lot of personalities. I was always a shy child… but I had BIG dreams of becoming an International model/singer/entertainer. I never missed an episode of America’s Next Top Model. I remember one of my favorite aunt’s “Auntie Whoop A** would always ask me, “Moo Moo, you wanna be on TV?” LOL. The answer was always, “Yes.”
My mom decided when I was 13 years old, after one weekend in Dallas, TX. That she was moving… I wasn’t happy about it at first! Starting 9th grade in an entirely different city was so scary, LOL. I’m so happy she made that decision. I really grew up in Dallas and faced my fear of being shy and talking to people. I eventually became apart of a modeling agency. I auditioned for ANTM a couple of times. Once I got into modeling, I realized it was fun but I didn’t think it was my calling at that time.
I would watch a lot of YouTube. I watched one woman in particular who inspired me to create my channel, her name is BlovesLife. She encouraged me & it looked so fun! I mean A LOT of YouTube! I was afraid to step out on and make my own channel. I had a fear of the unknown. How will people look at me?! My family is going to think I’m weird, what if people don’t like my personality, etc. Finally, my husband boosted my confidence and told me to “Go FOR IT” By this time, I had developed Vitiligo, and that really gave me so much anxiety! Finally, one day I said to myself Tijuana, this is your dream, who cares what people think. Once I said that it was ON LOL… I started making YouTube videos in 2015 and never looked back! I LOVE IT!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a wife and a mother to four beautiful children. It has DEFINITELY not been a smooth road! I’ve experienced so many bumps along the way and I’m sure I’ll continue to because that’s life! There has been plenty of times where I wanted to give up, whether it was lost footage (due to a technical error) or lost audio, finding time to record with four children at home and working a full-time job and trying to be a good wife as well.
But I’ve always been one to not give up easily. When I want something, I go after it 100%! So my family and I figured out a schedule that works for us and my channel is growing very rapidly on YouTube. Learning to have patience was one of my biggest challenges.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a creator on YouTube. My content specializes in ASMR… specifically Eating ASMR. ASMR is still fairly new in the United States, so I’ll explain just in case lol. Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR), sometimes auto sensory meridian response, is a tingling sensation that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. A pleasant form of paresthesia, it has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson. Basically, it’s similar to when you feel chills by hearing different sounds.
ASMR helps with depression, anxiety, weight loss, etc. Then to some people, it’s just pure entertainment. Yes, people like to see people eat! I thought it was weird at first, too but once I started watching it, I was intrigued and enjoyed it. My Mmmies (fan base/supporters) like to see me eat Seafood Boils, specifically King Crab LOL. I take really BIG bites, which they love to see. I love it because it challenges me to see how big of a bite I can take. I’ve even eaten two King Crabs in one bite! I shocked myself, LOL… This sets me apart from other ASMRist.
What sets me apart from other ASMRist is my “BIG BITES” and being myself 100%. What I’m most proud of is that I’m helping others and putting a smile on their face! It makes me feel like this is what I was created to do. I’ve found my mission in life and it’s amazing! Being a BIG foodie helps too LOL.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, something I would do differently is find my own lane, don’t compare my growth and success to other YouTube channels/Youtubers.
