Meet Tim Draper of Draper Floors in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Draper.

Tim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My career in flooring began with selling and managing several flooring companies here in Dallas. The first company I worked for was bought out by another company and I stayed on as the manager of their Lewisville store. I frequently brought to the new company ideas to serve our customers and increase our sales. I was informed that they bought us, we didn’t buy them. I went home that day very disappointed that a company did not want to hear what their employees had to say. I told my wife that I knew, I could do a better job on my own. She agreed and I took some money from our savings and started my business. My first showroom was a storage unit, however it had samples and I had Customers. Within a year, I was able to move into a bigger showroom. My customers from my former companies found me and began referring Draper Floors to their friends and family. I now have an 800-sq. ft. showroom. A lot of family and friends thought when I began that I wouldn’t succeed, since at the time most small businesses were closing their doors. My customer service skills, love for the job, and making people happy kept me going. I use quality products. I use the same installers, who are dedicated to the same goal as me. It isn’t a job to me, it is my passion to see the before and after. I love offering a service to people that makes them enjoy their home. My customers are more like my friends, I am there at the beginning, the middle, and at the end. I inspect all jobs to ensure that the customers are satisfied, I don’t want to find out in a review they were disappointed. I truly believe my success is due to the customer being able to do business and complain to the owner.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Actually, it has been a smooth road. Most of my struggles are trying to manage installs versus products available. I feel that you have to meet the challenges and obstacles head on and learn from them. I see in so many companies that the boss doesn’t know why he’s losing money until it’s too late. I don’t worry about the money! I worry about the job at hand. If I don’t take care of it, there won’t be another one.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Draper Floors – what should we know?
Draper Floors specializes in flooring (wood, tile, stone, laminate, luxury vinyl, and carpet), backsplashes, and showers. We are known to have some of the best products and installers in the community. I am proud that we are referred by our community of Carrollton to be the place to shop. What sets us apart from others, is our reviews. We strive to have good reviews. My Google and Yelp reviews are outstanding, most of them are a paragraph or more long. I’m proud to own a company where people like your service. I’ve been asked how we get such great reviews, we do a good job. We provide a service that makes people happy.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My greatest supporter is my wife, she had faith in me that I could build a successful business. My wife joined me just recently in our store greeting and helping customers with their product selections. I feel my installers deserve a lot of credit, they believe in doing their best. They make Draper Floors look good. My customers deserve credit for backing my company and coming back to us for all their flooring needs. My biggest mentor would be my Dad and Mom. He taught me to always do my best. She taught me about morals and values.

I love stories like this of real Americans, well TEXANS that put their heart into their business. I love how Tim is a hands-on business owner. No wonder he’s got such great reviews!!!
I happen to know first hand that he’s EXTREMELY picky on finishing a job to make it as perfect as he can.
    What a great article!
