Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Lavender, Jack Son, and Lisa Lavender.
LAV’s Kitchen Table (LKT) was born out of The LAV’s love of food, wine, and cooking! The original idea came from the LAV deciding to cook a Friday lunch each week, putting out dishes as a way of improving his cooking, presentation skill and trying new recipes – whether or not anyone ate them. He just wanted to cook and get better at it! Lisa and Jackson jumped in to put a strategy together to share this and not let that beautiful food go to waste! First a logo, some photos, a video on Facebook (and now Instagram also) of LAV inviting people to RSVP for a special lunch complete with wines and LAV’s Kitchen Table was born. The first 3 weeks were booked within two hours.
The complimentary (“they don’t talk about money”) 4-course lunch with exceptional wines limited to 8 guests, became the place to be in a matter of months. The theme is #SimpleBeautifulDelicious – with a side helping of fun!
Guests of LAV’s Kitchen Table are advised to take off on that Friday (those that didn’t, regretted it or DID end up calling in!), giving them plenty of time to enjoy the scrumptious meal, delicious wines and linger afterward to relax, listen to music, drink more wine and get to know new friends!
Recently LKT has branched out to accommodate special occasions and events including dinners sponsored by the likes of Hennessy, HL Wines, Maison Saint James, and others. The first weekend of May, LKT has been invited back to NYC for an encore performance at a private home cooking for celebrities and high profile CEO’s.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth as a beautiful Merlot. Seriously, of course very few things are easy but cooking is truly a love and passion for me – making it “easy” to immerse myself, try to learn as much as I can and lean into sharing that love with others.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LAV’s Kitchen Table story. Tell us more about the business.
We serve amazing food and wine along with a big helping of fun! We don’t sell food so it isn’t “business”. We simply combine my love of cooking (and sharing that food) with the exceptional talent and skills that Lisa and Jackson have in creating an incredible guest experience – never missing a single detail. Together, they have about 50 years in the hospitality industry, working for the best of the best. When we put that together with great food, wine and the comfort of The Pink Palace (our home) – everyone wins.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
They say it’s better to be lucky than good! I like to think of it more as a blessing to be able to pursue something I love with people that I love!
