Meet Tim Tran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Tran.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had a hard time finding my place in this world. I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, so I took a gap year from school. I lost all my friends as they all went off to college. I was heartbroken by the girl I moved from Pittsburgh to Dallas for since we met online a year before I moved. I was in a new city alone, but this is where I would begin a new life.

Originally, I was studying computer science because I was in for the money. After my first year of college, I realized this wasn’t my calling. I remembered that ever since I was a lad, I always loved fashion and clothes. I got a lot of inspiration from my oldest brother. He introduced me to many brands such as Clark’s to OBEY. I want to work in the fashion industry, but I don’t have enough creativity to work in the design department.

I also love meeting new people so now I’m studying marketing to become a future marketing director at a fashion brand.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say so myself. I grew up with a single mother raising me and my three brothers, so we do not have very much money.

I still moved away from home back in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania despite our finances. I attend school full time, work two jobs, and pay my own bills. I do not have as much time or money as I would like to fuel my passion.

It is also difficult to enter the industry since I do not know where to start. I’m not where I want to be in life yet, but that’s fine because I’m on the path!

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I blog my outfits on my Instagram. When I was starting out my portfolio, I would take the pictures by myself by setting a timer, running to the other side, and posing. Now, most of the pictures are taken by my friends who work as photographers, and I’m forever grateful to them.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think the single most important thing to have is a goal. Once I had a very clear goal, started working on it, everything seems to fall into place. There were bad outcomes along the way, but I trust in the process!
