Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim and Penney Pollard.
Tim’s love of aviation began at five years old when his dad bought a Bonanza. He began to read all aviation publications and study the market at a very young age. He obtained a degree in Finance and started selling airplanes for Van Bortel Aircraft in 1991. He started Pollard Aircraft, LLC in 1993. Pollard specializes in King Air and Corporate jet sales, brokering and financing. Tim also appears regularly on a reality show called,” Selling Jets” on the AWE network.
Penney and Tim met at the Arlington Airport in 1991 and married in 1993. They have twin daughters who are both juniors in college at TCU and OU. Everyone in the family flies and Tim, Penney and daughter, Ariel are all licensed pilots.
Pollard Spares, LLC began in 2013 with an aircraft that would be too costly to repair and maintain. We disassemble flying aircraft and sell the parts individually. Penney Pollard took over the company in 2014 after a career at American Airlines and in real estate. They ship parts globally and also have a FAA 145 repair station.
Sky Candy, LLC is a furniture company started in 2016 as Penney’s hobby. They make furniture out of the pieces they cannot sell for local airports and aviation enthusiasts.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have definitely had some bumps in the road over the years. We’ve had to ride the economic wave, especially after 2008 when financing became very difficult and we relied on private lenders at higher interest rates. We have trusted the wrong people, and made many mistakes. However, every wrong decision has brought an opportunity to learn and grow and become stronger and better moving forward!
Please tell us about Pollard Aircraft and Pollard Spares.
We are most proud of our reputation as being a leader in the industry and maintaining integrity.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Hindsight is so perfect. Of course, there are decisions we would have made better or differently, but ultimately, they have made us who we are today and brought us to this place in our journey, you should always trust your gut. People will always tell you who they are…. You just have to listen.
