Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Dang.
Tina, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story. I was born and raised in Dallas, TX., when I was younger we moved around a lot but we always stayed in the Dallas area. I have four siblings (two brothers and two sisters) and I am the middle child. In my younger years, life was always chaotic, living in a household where my parents fought a lot, it definitely was overwhelming as a child. My father finally decided to leave when I was about 10 years old and I never saw him again after that. My mother, being a homemaker with four kids left to raise alone struggled to get on her feet after. We experienced a lot of rough times after that, being evicted from the house, we once called home, to being so broke we didn’t have food to eat. After getting some help, we ended up moving into a homeless shelter and that helped my mom with an opportunity to provide us food and shelter and finding a job to support us all.
After some hard times and years passing, things slowly became better for us. Since I had to witness my mom go through all of this, it has definitely molded me into the woman I am today. I learned to never depend on anyone because you never know if things will fall apart and you’re left alone with nothing and nobody to turn to for help. I know that doesn’t go for everyone, but for me, that was a huge life lesson. With such struggles, we didn’t grow up with much but we were ok as long as we were all together. I graduated from high school and continued growing into a young woman, working, paying bills and dealing with the real world as best as I could. I didn’t get the luxury of attending college, I simply could not afford it.
When I was 21, my younger sister had a child but could not raise her, she had a lot of personal demons and issues she had to deal with. I took on the responsibility of being her primary caregiver, which felt like I was her mom since I brought her home at about four weeks old, (she is now 11). I took a year off of working to care for her until she was almost one. Once we figured out our schedules, me, my brother and mother figured a way out for us all to work as well as providing care for her appropriately. Having Angelina gave me the motivation to do better for us all and work hard to give her the things I did not have as a child and to never let her suffer without anything. When I turned 29, I then had my first child, Elijah. He definitely changed my world, all over again.
With such a huge age gap it was exhausting to start all over but I did it. Not having the best relationship with his father made things very difficult. Once I got back on my feet and began to work again, things started to turn around. After a few years of working in Corporate America again, being laid off twice, I then realized that I needed to invest in myself and start a career that I could really enjoy and also gave the ability to spend time with my kids and family without asking for time off or affecting my paycheck. I gave health and life insurance a try but it just wasn’t for me. I started looking into real estate because I was very intrigued by the entire process when I purchased my first home and I really wanted to give it a shot and here I am today, my first year down. It took a lot of sacrifices for me to complete but I was determined to cross the finish line.
Being my first year, I am not where I want to be, just yet, but I am determined to turn my business into a huge success with hard work and dedication. I just want others to hear my story and understand that life doesn’t have to end after such tragic events and to always look up and keep pushing for the next day. I honestly have to thank my mother for being my backbone throughout all of my years of growing into the woman I am today. I get all of my strength from her, even though she may not know what she has taught me, I will always appreciate it. I truly believe that God wouldn’t put you through these things if he knew you couldn’t handle it.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road but is it something that you can accomplish with determination. There are days you work your butt off and get nothing in real estate. You just cannot give up.
Tell us more about the business.
I provide assistance with all real estate services. Buying, selling or leasing your next home is what I help others with. I work in the DFW area, not in any particular area. I think what sets me apart from the rest is how I build a relationship with my clients as their realtor. I found that to be a huge part of being successful as a realtor and it makes clients feel closer to you as a person on their venture of finding their new home. Also, it lets you continue working with them in the future.
