Meet TJ Frank of Southpaws Grill

Today we’d like to introduce you to TJ Frank.

TJ, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My business partner, Reza Anvarian, is a two-time Golden Glove Champion as a southpaw (left-handed) boxer. So from early on, Reza understood the importance of nutrition and eating clean to make weight. Souhtpaws Grill first location opened over 11 years ago in 715 square feet in Preston Center. We are currently working on our 5th location in the metroplex, located in Downtown Dallas. Neither one of us went to culinary school, but we knew if we delivered a quality product consistently, people would come back.

Has it been a smooth road?
Restaurant business is never smooth, and anyone that tells you it is smooth is lying. We wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I think the biggest factor we have faced is the heavy presence of delivery. With major platforms like UberEATS, it has shifted our consumer to a more convenient service. But that service has a fee.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Southpaws Grill story. Tell us more about the business.
We have never paid a dollar for advertising or marketing to this day and have our amazing, loyal customers to thank for our continued success. Southpaws Grill is a fast-casual eatery that focuses on a healthy lifestyle inspired by natural, clean, and sustainably raised products purchased from local to surrounding states.

What has been your proudest moment?
Lasting over ten years and still going in the hardest market in the country.
