Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Ybarra.
Tony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from San Antonio, TX. At the age of 17, I surrounded myself with the wrong people, which led me to be involved in an armed robbery. I was then arrested, when I was released, I made a decision to better my life and started going to church and got married by the age of 20 to my Beautiful wife Selina Ybarra and had our firstborn child. I tried my best to do good in San Antonio but always found myself on the streets again and again, around my old friends from the neighborhood.
I picked up a bad drug addiction that started with abusing prescription pills, which led me to start using heroin. I found myself homeless separated from my wife, my son and newborn baby girl. My heroin addiction lasted for about seven years, I’ve lost three friends to a drug overdose. I decided I needed to get help when I almoed overdosed myself. I came to Victory Outreach Church of Dallas and came into their recovery home. And my life has never been the same. God has restored my life, I have been sober and living happily with my wife and kids for the past six years here in Dallas, TX.
What inspired me to start HOOD PREACHER ENT. Was my life struggle and the struggles of others to share their story as well and give hope that God can really change a person. Our goal is to give hope through music.
Has it been a smooth road?
My wife was diagnosed with cancer not too long ago. We have had plenty of sleepless nights and countless times we have cried together. But one thing we told ourselves was never to give up on sharing the love of Christ. Me and my wife are youth leaders in our church (Victory Outreach Church Of Dallas); this obstacle has provided its challenges, BUT with God, nothing is impossible. We are believing in a miracle and we are confident in God that it will come to pass.
