Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Burge.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always loved events. In high school, I remember wanting to be an event planner but quickly found out that multitasking was not one of my giftings. 😉
However, I still loved being apart of birthdays, weddings, graduations, and anything else that allowed me to be up close and personal to these things.
Celebrating important milestones like these are moments that are meant to be captured and remembered forever. The fact that an outsider (like me) would be allowed to walk into such a cherished space in someone’s life is a gift and something I don’t take lightly.
So, from the moment I realized that photography would give me that opportunity to be able to near to those events, I began in 2013 and have been shooting events ever since!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not necessarily. But, does anything you love ever really come without a few road bumps? After seven years of doing this, I’ve learned that mistakes don’t ever really stop, but learning from them and doing something about them can be a real game-changer.
You see, the biggest struggle I found myself doing was playing the comparison game. I was always looking at different trends on social media, finding that perfect “style”. But over time, I quickly learned that photography isn’t about me. Who knew, right? 😉 Photography is about telling someone’s story. Someone’s uniquely crafted story that I believe God has written for them and I was second tier to that.
You see, that moment when the groom first lays eyes on his bride and is in tears, or that time when you are in a newborn’s nursery with two newly proud parents are just a few examples we strive to document well for our clients. We want them to print those pictures and hang on the walls of their homes forever.
Please tell us about Chris & Tori Photography.
I would say we are mainly known for weddings, travel and newborn sessions. Our heart is to make God’s name known amongst the nations. Before going full time, my husband and I worked for a mission organization and will soon be rejoining that organization in the spring. If you go to our website, you can see our mission statement and heart to give back what the Lord has given us. We give back 10% to people who are missionaries spreading the gospel around the world.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Well, obviously, there are too many to count BUT if I had to list one, it would probably be growing up playing basketball. Don’t let this 5’2 body fool you, I had a pretty mean basketball game growing up! 😉 Since the age of eight, I was always ready for anything that came on the court! Also, I was a wizard when it came to March Madness. Don’t tell my husband this, but I sort of kick his butt every year when it comes to filling out our brackets! 😉
