Today we’d like to introduce you to Torrence Anderson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Torrence. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started off making music in college. Spent a lot of my time with my best friends and we would record songs on a headset in the dorm room using Adobe Audition software. We’d rap over a lot of industry beats and compile them into mixtapes under the group name “TP”. We released No Floors 1 and 2 (a play on Lil Wayne’s No Ceilings series) in 2010 and 2011 via p2p file sharing sites. After those I started recording my own music by buying beats from random producers on the internet via soundclick. Started using the booths at my school that were only supposed to be used by students in radio or broadcasting majors. Which I wasn’t. I ended up recording a project called the Quiet Yell in 2012 and shared it around college. After that I ended up connecting with Mikhail “Trakboy” Lopez and recorded a full length project with him titled Midnight Brights in 2014. Afterward met up with Donny Domino and started recording a project at the Dojo45 studio. One that I am still putting the finishing touches on. Two years back I started to teach myself graphic design using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I began doing logos and some photo manipulations and composites. A little over a year ago I purchased my first DSLR camera and started doing portrait shoots. And now I’m doing a shoot pretty much weekly and still engaging in some graphic design work as well.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been far from smooth. Financially being a creative is tough because I get invested thru investing time and money with sometimes little return. There have been times when I’m not making enough money to really execute things how I know they should be simply because I can’t afford to. I’ve also gone thru a lot of creative blocks and lack of inspiration. Especially doing music from time to time. I’m still building from scratch and handling everything on your own can be draining. But when I’m focused it doesn’t matter because the passion and results make it worth it. Everything will fall into place.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Torrence Anderson Muzik/Leroi Banner Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Well for music I’m a rapper/singer/songwriter. I am very blessed to be able to do all 3 and I only ever put anything out after hours and hours of meticulous execution. I continuously push myself to higher standards and never settle for a second. This holds true for my photography as well. I’m consistently learning new ways to advance the quality in my photos and finding new methods of editing and simply doing good business with people.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas is actually a very underrated city as far as having events and happenings throughout. I’m not from here but I consider it my second home since I spent my college years here til now. But the artistic scene and young entrepreneurs bringing their own culture into the city’s melting pot is inspiring and great to revel in. The one thing I don’t like as much is the food. Not to say Dallas doesn’t have some good food but being from Chicago there are a lot of things that aren’t here or in my opinion aren’t on the same level as out there.
