Today we’d like to introduce you to Tosha Lacy.
Tosha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I first started my candle journey in 2018 for a few months. My focus began shifting toward my fragrance and home decor company, GSV Fragrances, due to an increase in sales and high demand during the holidays. From that moment, I pushed my desire for candle making to the side. In December 2019, after a series of “life” events, I made the personal and “selfish” decision to invest in myself and do something that would change the direction of my journey. For my 40th birthday, I decided to enroll in a one on one candle course with Ms. Kim Braud in Atlanta, GA. I made the last-minute change after my original plans for my birthday didn’t go as planned. I see that was God’s way of getting me in alignment with where He wanted me to be. My friends and I packed up and drove 10 hours on a Friday for my class the next morning. What an amazing day and it was indeed the greatest decision made. I learned so much during this class and it gave me the confidence I needed to again shift back into perfecting my craft and truly building my brand.
Has it been a smooth road?
To make a long story short, NO! It definitely was not a smooth road but was it worth it? YES! Starting a candle business is expensive in some aspects. It becomes a struggle at times, more of frustration when suppliers are out of stock, supplies on backorder, shipping delays, candles not curing properly. Every business has its bumps in the road as well as it smooth lanes, but the ending result makes it worthwhile. To hear clients and customers express their love the products and referring others, there is no greater feeling.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Flick & Flaunt Candle story. Tell us more about the business.
Flick & Flaunt Candle Co, was reborn in Decemember on 2019 and launched in March of this year. I specialize in container candles for retail, wholesale, and private label services. All of the candles are created with 100% Soy Wax or Coco Apricot Creme. I partner with apartment complexes, realtors, and other corporate vendors for their candle and home decor needs for their clientele. I always leave a little piece of myself in each candle/product sold and I am always looking for ways to improve my brand and become better. What sets me apart from others? I applaud every candlemaker in the industry and don’t focus on or compare myself to others. We’re all chandlers in different markets with different goals of where we see our brands. I’m honestly in my own lane perfecting the craft God blessed me with another opportunity to follow. I’m just a country girl, making candles, and building a brand.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Candles and home fragrances will always be a “must have”. The market will be saturated with small businesses, boutiques, and other creative industries related to candles. I am excited to be apart of the industry and I am humbled to be apart of the change.
