Meet Trace Megellas of TForceElite in Colleyville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trace Megellas.

Trace, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Martial Arts at a very young age and almost instantly fell in love with it. I started to compete heavily on several different martial arts circuits all over the world. I would put in multiple hours of training as a kid and still continue to do the same today. I trained until people considered me one of the best. Over the years I worked tremendously hard to get as much exposure as I possibly could in the martial arts world. As a result of that, people all over the world started reaching out to me for martial arts training. I had quite a few students from various areas of Dallas that would train with me daily in my garage that wanted to start competing and they wanted a team to be a part of, so I made it happen. We started off very small with about 4 people including myself, we went to competitions and we made ourselves known. About 3 years in we had 50 time World Champion, Paige Bantum join our team, and from there our team took off! Now, 5 years later we have a following of over 100,000 followers and have videos that reach millions of likes on Facebook. Our once very small team that started here in Dallas has become a very well-known team in the martial arts world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our team has been very fortunate to have the opportunities we have had that helped us reach where we are today. For my students, I have made sure that being a part of our team makes a positive impact on their martial arts careers as well as their lives outside of martial arts and I have worked really hard to make sure that they don’t run into the same struggles I ran into as a young martial artist. Though our team has had a smooth ride, I cannot say the same for myself. This whole journey started the day I decided to start competing and started to take my martial arts studies seriously. As a kid, I was never the most talented athlete. I really struggled to do moves that others made look simple. I had to go that extra mile just to keep up with the other kids. I went through several years of losses and disappointments, but I didn’t let it stop me. I kept pushing and working harder till eventually competitions consisted of wins and all of my hard work paying off. Without that drive that I had when I was a younger and the struggles I went through, I’m not sure our team would be where we are today.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about TForceElite – what should we know?
TForceElite is a martial arts team that competes in many circuits all over the world. We specialize in Extreme Martial Arts. Currently we have about 35 members of our team and we train thousands of people worldwide. We are out of town almost every weekend to teach a seminar or compete at a tournament. At these seminars we will teach bo staff, nunchucks and open hand forms. Our team is mostly known for being good at bo staff and open hand forms. We are all very passionate about martial arts and plan to do it for the rest of our lives.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
When we search for our athletes, we look for some qualities that we feel are very important. We watch the athletes and see if they have good ring etiquette, we watch the way they interact with their competitors, most importantly we watch and see if they are a good, kind, genuine person. After seeing if they have all of these qualities, then we look at their martial arts abilities. I think that these qualities are what makes our team so unique and different from any other martial arts team.
