Meet Trailblazer Brittany Deluna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Deluna.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a love for nails, I started getting them done when I was in middle school. It was something I always looked forward to. I started cosmo school when I turned 18 and I absolutely hated hair but I loved nails. I had a passion for it. Unfortunately, they didn’t spend much time teaching us the art of nails so I dropped out. A couple of years later I enrolled in a nail only program and graduated in six months. My husband encouraged me to follow my dreams and go for it but in El Paso Texas, there’s no money to be made.

Everything was too cheap. So we moved to Dallas in hopes that I could follow my dreams. I struggled not knowing anyone in Dallas, and there were times I thought this was the wrong choice. That didn’t stop me as in a little over a year I was able to build up an amazing clientele. I now have a thriving business and also get the chance to work on celebrities. It’s my dream come true. I couldn’t have done without my husband. His constant reassurance motivated to not give up. I am where I am because of him and now I slay nails all day everyday day!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a long bumpy road. I struggled at first not making any money at all and having three kids. I wanted to give up so many times but I couldn’t. I had to do it for my husband and kids. I had no choice but to be successful. My advice to a woman just starting her own business is, go for it! Never give up, and you might fail but that’s ok. Everyone fails, you have to just get back up and start again!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Nails by Brittany – what should we know?
I am a nail artist in Arlington, Texas. I specialize in colored acrylics, ombré, 3D and encapsulated nail art. I’m most proud that I have the opportunity to make people feel great about themselves. I’m also in school to be an instructor so I can help others be successful nail artists as well. I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to customize each service to each client’s needs and style!

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
As women, we can do anything we set our hearts to. I feel us women are made to run own businesses. We already are great at multitasking. We’re moms, wives, and career professionals why not be bosses too?
