Meet Trailblazer Brittney Jackson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Jackson.

Brittney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey as an Esthetician/makeup artist started in 2016, I first started off watching YouTube makeup tutorials until one day my husband was like why don’t you go to school for it. I ended up getting referred by a friend from ogle hair skin and nails, I went for the tour enrolled and while there I learned that not only would I be learning makeup but skincare as well. As I started to learn more about skincare, I instantly fell in love. My journey in school was a tough one I found out I was pregnant with my third child one month into school. I was literally ready to give up but remembered the reason why I started and that I have a little one watching me. So, I continued and worked hard to get through school doing extra hours to finish. I graduated in May 2017. Then, after I moved into a suite in Duncanville to start my journey as an Esthetician, it was challenging bringing in new clients. I walked around handing out my business cards and flyers to bring in customers. I have started over many times, I even went mobile because it’s really hard to stop doing something that you are passionate about. I love helping people feel good about their skin and appearance. It took a lot of trial and error to get to where I am now. I’m not where I want to be but as long as I stay consistent and with my determination, I will get there.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road at all, there has been a lot of bumps in the road as well as trial and error. Some of the struggles for me was gaining clientele, I tried a lot of different marketing techniques to bring in clientele and to keep them coming back. The advice I would give to women in business is to stay consistent, take marketing and branding classes, surround yourself with like-minded individuals, network, and stay focused

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed Esthetician, Makeup Artist, Candlemaker, baker, and Microshading & Microblading artist. I specialize in skincare and makeup from bridal makeup and corrective skincare, I am known for makeup, skincare, and my treats that I bake occasionally. I am most proud of the improvement of my work and the satisfaction from my clients, there is nothing that makes me more proud than seeing a smile on my client’s face after receiving a service from me. What set me apart from others is I possess empathy and self-awareness, I have a unique way of doing things, I strive to be a better businesswoman for my brand and for my clients, I am a jack of all trades and always keep many options for my clients from candles, treats, makeup, and skincare, I truly do it all and continue to learn new things.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
Absolutely, women has the highest percentage of starting their own businesses. I feel a lot of women are like me the odds are against us, but we work best when our backs are against the wall.
