Today we’d like to introduce you to Dara Ates.
Dara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion and fascination for beautifying women’s eyes began at an early age. I’ve been enhancing eye beautification for about 5 years. I started my lash journey applying eyelash strips, then tab lashes.
The new trend of “mink eyelash extensions” soon caught my attention. I wanted to provide a service to make the everyday working woman – mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt, caretaker feel as beautiful and radiant as she should feel. This is a main reason why “Lashy Lady” began its journey! Us ladies spend countless hours caring for others and forget about ourselves often.
I was laid off April 2018 and that gave me confirmation to continue in school and fulfilling my dream as a lash tech. Since then, I have been successful in my business and continue to thrive in it. I love my clients, colleagues and most importantly what I do every day, and that’s enhancing natural beauty. I owe all the glory and success to God because without him I would not be able to live in it!
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s never really a smooth road when starting a business from the bottom up. That’s the best part about the journey in becoming a business owner. I appreciate the trials, tribulations, bumps in the roads and mountains to climb ahead. Those things build strength and courage in me and show me that I must be doing something right and that my business will continue to be successful.
My advice to up and coming women starting a business is to never give up and when you get that uncomfortable feeling just take that leap of faith!

I specialize in eyelash extensions. I offer a classic set which is a natural everyday look, hybrid set which is a mix of classic and volume for ladies who want an extra pop to their everyday look, and lastly a volume set which is a more bold and dramatic look.
My other specialties are eyebrow threading and tinting!
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel the obstacles today in female leadership is being able to stand out amongst the rest.
There can be a billion ladies in your industry but as long as you have that one attribute about you or your work you will stand out no matter what!
