Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Castaldi.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been a professional makeup artist since 2006. I began my career in cosmetics in Southern California where it was always my dream to work for MAC Cosmetics. Back in those days there was nothing out there like MAC and I knew that I wanted to improve my artistry and fulfill my dreams of someday working for MAC. Eventually, with a lot of hard work I was able to secure an opportunity to work for my dream company and I had a wonderful time working for them on and off for eight years before eventually accepting a position with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. I learned so much as a MAC artist and as a Bobbi Brown artist and it gave me the confidence to step out on my own as a freelance makeup artist. I now reside in Central Texas and am a freelance makeup artist and I couldn’t be happier!
Has it been a smooth road?
To say that the road has been completely smooth would be a lie. My road has been paved with bumps, twists, and turns, but I am grateful for all of the struggles because calm seas never made for a skillful sailor. I have learned so much along the way and grown both as a person and as an artist. My advice for any young woman embarking on a new career is to soak in whatever experience you can. If you are embarking in a career in cosmetics apprentice for a makeup artist, wash brushes, assist them on jobs, watch what they do as much as possible because you are going to learn something amazing daily. Practice, practice, practice, even if you get frustrated and don’t think you’re very good, you can only improve with time and attention. Chase after your dreams because the time is going to pass anyway, it’s all in what you do with it!

I am a freelance makeup artist specializing in bridal, special event, camera-ready makeup application, and makeup lessons. As a makeup artist, I am most proud of my ability to provide a fresh perspective and customized looks to my clients. I love being able to create a look for my client that they may have seen on social media, but make it wearable for their event or occasion and customize it to match their features and taste. I also love being able to educate women on how to create a wearable look for day-to-day with customized looks to match their lifestyle. Servicing my clients and making them feel happy and beautiful is the best part of my job!
Which women have inspired you in your life?
I am always inspired by the women in my family. My grandmother, mother, and sister are huge sources of inspiration in my life and they have always encouraged me to work hard, stay the course and see things through even if they are difficult, and to share my gifts and talents with others. I have had some amazing women in my life that I have met through work and school and collectively they have all helped shape me in one way or another.
