Meet Trailblazer Dynette A. Davis, ABD

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dynette A. Davis, ABD.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a professor of general studies, speaker, author, and CEO of Dymensions Educational Consulting LLC. As a child, I always knew that when I grew up, I would help children to learn, grow and develop. After completing my undergraduate degree at the DePaul University, I did just that!

I initially entered the field of education as a kindergarten teacher in the Roseland community, on the Southside of Chicago IL. It was in that building that I developed a strong passion for education. While continuing my work as a classroom teacher, I also committed to furthering my education at Concordia University Chicago, where I earned my MA in Curriculum and Instruction. After completing 4 years of teaching in Chicago IL and earning my graduate degree, my family and I relocated to Plano, TX.

Upon my arrival in Texas, I switched gears and set out to pursue a career in higher education. During my first 4 years in education, I had an opportunity to work alongside some amazing teachers. I had also received training and was mentored by the best. This encouraged me to reach back and do the same for college students that have an interest in becoming educators. My experiences as a teacher, mentor, teacher leader and curriculum developer, have led me to build and sustain healthy learning environments. Understanding the task ahead, I decided to further my education by pursuing a Doctorate of Higher Education Leadership in 2013. This is also when Dymensions Educational Consulting LLC was born. Even though I wanted to begin teaching on the collegiate level, I still wanted to continue my work with K-12 students.

Once the company was established, I began to tutor students in core subjects along with my staff. At Dymensions Educational Consulting, we pride ourselves in working to meet the needs of each student. Our tutoring program offers individuals and groups the academic support needed to excel in and out of the classroom. We tutor students in core subjects and SAT/ACT. After just 2 years of offering to tutor, we expanded our services by offering college planning cohorts. This came about because our first students were entering high school and we found that there as a need for college preparation. We are proud of the 100% college acceptance rate of our first college planning cohort graduates and 98% continuation rate, as they are currently college sophomores.

In 2017, we published College Planning: An Interactive Workbook Designed to Prepare High School Students for College. This book was co-authored by subject matter experts. It is currently used with our college planning students in Chicago IL, Dallas TX, Atlanta GA and those that work independently.
In June 2018, we moved into our new office space. (Dymensions Academic Center – Dallas – 8105 Rasor Blvd Ste. 273 Plano TX 75024) We are excited to offer our services to families all over the DFW metroplex.

In addition to working in our new office, I enjoy speaking at schools, conferences, and workshops on topics that relate to the academic and social development of youth and adolescents.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business is not an easy task. During my journey, there have been many highs and lows. One thing I know for certain, everything has worked out as it should because I have made a promise to change lives. While running my business, I mentor young women that are interested in becoming education consultants. My goal is to make sure they don’t have the same successful failures that I had to experience. If I had to share advice for future women business owners and educators it would be to remember your WHY. I believe that it is important to have a purpose and be passionate about your work.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dymensions Educational Consulting – what should we know?
Dymensions Educational Consulting LLC is committed to the continued development in the field of education for educators, students and parents. Dymensions takes a holistic approach to support educators, parents, and students by offering opportunities for them to grow.

Our mission is to promote change in the field of education through re-establishing parent-teacher relationships, offering professional development opportunities, promoting teacher readiness and encouraging growth and development throughout the educational community. We offer programs for everyone.

Our Services Include:

Tutoring: This service provides students with direct and individualized assistance in an academic area of need. This can be offered in small groups or a one-on-one setting.

ACT/SAT Test Preparation: One of the most important components of college preparation are the ACT and SAT tests. Each test is a contributing factor to college acceptance. Group Test Preparation includes 5-10 students, participating in 8-hour workshop sessions. Students will gain knowledge in all testing areas. Groups can be formed through open registration, schools, and organizations. We also offer 3-week bootcamps that lead up to test dates.

College Planning: This includes assistance with the college application process.

College planning can be offered in the following formats:
• Individual consultations
• Group workshops
• Seminars and Presentations
• College Tours

Professional Development: We provide professional development for schools, learning centers, and youth-centered organizations.

Topics include: Classroom Management, New Teacher Training, Differentiated Instruction, and Curriculum Mapping, Common Core, Small Group Instruction.

Curriculum Development: This service offers organizations, companies, and institutions an opportunity to have a curriculum developed to meet their unique needs.

New Teacher Mentoring” This service is structured to train teachers in the following areas:
• Learning and apply principles of effective teaching
• Using strategies to work through and resolve teaching challenges
• Develop a more effective and efficient lesson and unit plans
• Manage the classroom more effectively
• Develop a teaching portfolio that charts the principles in practice through teacher artifacts, reflections, and student work

When I set out to organize Dymensions Educational Consulting LLC, I wanted to “Change the Face of Education”. We are known for being one company that offers ALL THINGS EDUCATION. This is what sets us apart from other companies. I am most proud of our students and how they have grown. I am also proud of how our brand can be found in K-12 classrooms and on college campuses, through the students we have prepared. Students of Dymensions Educational Consulting LLC possess the GRIT and DETERMINATION that is required to be future leaders.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I believe that women can do ANYTHING! For every challenge that we face, there are more success stories. We nurture and teach future leaders. I grew up in a female dominant family. I have seen some amazing things take place through the lives of my grandmother, mother, aunts, and women in our community. Now that I have become a leader in the academic community, I am committed to carrying the torch of preparing young women to one day take my place.
