Meet Trailblazer Emily Bruner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Bruner.

Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As cheesy as it sounds, I’ve always had a passion for fashion ever since I was a little girl. I remember being a sophomore in high school and stumbling upon the style & DIY blog “…Love Maegan.” She was the first blogger I had ever followed, and I told myself, “Hey, I could do this!” So then, began my blogging journey. Since then, I’ve rebranded, my style has changed, trends have come and gone, I’ve upgraded my camera and I’ve learned so much, but my mission has never changed – to inspire, encourage and motivate young women, like myself, to be confident in their personal style.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
While I wouldn’t say the path to where I am now has been nothing but roadblock after roadblock, I will say I’ve had my fair share of bumps along the way. Mental blocks, comparison, a busy life, and times when inspiration was lacking have definitely occurred, but what entrepreneur or creative DOESN’T go through those? When I feel stuck for some reason, I always remind myself of why I do what I do. It’s cliche, but to me, your WHY is the most important part of any journey you go on.

I’m not the biggest blogger out there. My audience is actually pretty small. Sometimes, I feel like I put all my efforts into Love Emmarie for nothing, but then, I remember that if I even impact one girl with what I post, my job is done. It shouldn’t matter how many views you get or followers you have on social media. It’s the impact that counts. I used to often find myself comparing my brand, blog, and success to others in my community. Thinking, “Oh, well, if I looked like her… posted like her… talked like her… I’d be more successful too.” WRONG. I’ve found that truly being yourself in this oversaturated market is what’s going to set you apart eventually. Like Dr. Seuss said, “Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is more youer than you.”

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m the blogger/influencer/creative director whatever other titles you want to give me behind the blog Love Emmarie. I focus mainly on fashion and throw some lifestyle in there on occasion, whether that be travel, food, fitness, etc. In the blogging world, I think I tend to stand out for my simple, effortless sense of style and also for my editing methods. I like to maintain a moodier, desaturated, contrasted feed throughout the year, while brighter more pinky, orange tones seem to be more trendy.

I’m honestly just very proud of myself for staying true to my passion for blogging no matter what life has thrown my way. While I am proud of nailing down big collaborations, such as Diet Coke, Madewell, and Clarisonic; juggling school, a social life, moving across the country, moving back, internships, and jobs while remaining passionate about what you choose to do as a side hustle is hard. I know I’m not the only gal (or guy) that’s gone through this, so props to you babes for sticking to it!

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think there are more opportunities for women now than ever before. We see amazing examples of women in our society all the time doing awesome things all the time, like Michelle Obama, Ellen, Tezza on a larger scale, and local women like Amanda Smith of Dallas Girl Gang. I feel like social media has really opened up a huge opportunity for women to grow their personal brands, drive their passion projects, connect with other like-minded women and to let their voices be heard. Whether your audience is 200 or 200k, you have a space for your voice, your mission, your determination to be seen!
