Meet Trailblazer Faith Long

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Long.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Faith. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing makeup for fun about 5 years ago and eventually fell in love with it. The more I learned and practiced only made me want to learn more and become better every day. My friends and family started asking me to do their makeup which really boosted me knowing other people believed in me and saw my talent. About a year ago, I found an amazing makeup school that I just knew I wanted to attend. After researching the school and others and comparing them, I finally convinced my parents that I needed to go to that school. My mom and I went to go talk about classes with an advisor I had already met before, and he got me signed up for classes that started the next day! After graduating from Boss Beauty Makeup Academy as a Certified Profession Makeup Artist, I got an amazing job as a Sephora color cast and I have continued to turn my passion into a job I love!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of my biggest struggles with makeup was and is winged eyeliner. Before makeup school, I rarely did winged eyeliner on myself and had never attempted it on someone else. But we had a whole class session to help us get down techniques that work for us and I try to practice eyeliner every single day to only get better. There are still times I struggle with it but the biggest thing I have to remind myself is to not give up. Because giving up is not going to get me where I want to be, so I have to stay motivated!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a color certified artist at Sephora, which means I do custom makeovers. And I also do makeup on the side as a freelance makeup artist. I have done a wedding which consisted of the bride and 6 bridesmaids, homecoming and prom looks, sorority dances, baby reveals, date nights and more. When doing someone else’s makeup I always ask a lot of questions to try and understand what they really want in the end. I always try to find the perfect foundation finish in the best shade for them. And if the client isn’t amazed at how they look in the end, then I didn’t do my job to the fullest. I strive to be the best I can be and give the client exactly what they want while teaching them new things along the way.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
While attending Boss Beauty Makeup Academy I got to hear the story of how Hanan Ibrahim got into makeup, how she struggled but never gave up and worked so hard to achieve her goal. Hearing her story was so inspiring to me because there are always times where you doubt yourself, especially when others are doubting you too. And I have gone through some very similar things to her so knowing I wasn’t alone in my struggle kept pushing me to be better and keep working hard. Also, knowing that she never gave up and did everything she had to do to get to where she now really gives me hope that I could do the same.
