Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Schechter.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I always has a passion for fashion and modeling. When my husband and I moved to Dallas in September of 2018, I found that passion again. I started attending John Casablanca Center training in modeling and acting and since then have just been chasing my dreams.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My road has been far since starting out. My first dream started when I enlisted in the Army but was medically discharged so that left me high and dry. Then, my husband and I moved to Dallas and I found my love for modeling and acting again. Sadly, even this wasn’t a smooth road for me. When I first started modeling, I found out I was pregnant. I ended up losing that pregnancy and therefore put a pause on my dreams while I recovered. I battle depression and anxiety that make it hard for me to feel confident and comfortable in my own skin. My therapist and my supporters make it so easy for me to feel better in my own skin and coping with my past. My advice to girls wanting to chase their dreams would be don’t give up. It seems so easy to on most days like you’re stagnant and not good enough but I promise you’re making a change in someone’s life for the better as they watch you. You’re the current situation, your parents and your ailments can’t hold you back from your dreams if you don’t let them.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m a model and actress but more so a model. I got into concert photography early this year 2019 and have been finding new talents every day. I love the creativity that comes with making themes and different look for shoots and roles. I must say the thing I’m most proud of is the different people I’ve met through my different areas of life. The army and modeling has let me meet some of my best friends in the entire world. It has helped me learn more about people around me, different cultures and myself.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I truly believe women pave the way for a new and better world. Many of the smartest people I’ve met out of the thousands I have over the past two years are women. One of the people who really lit a spark inside of me to become more than I am was my female drill sergeants in the army. Every day I feel like quitting I think of them. I look at women politicians, young women speakers and athletes, the amazing women on television and movies and just feel awestruck. When I was little, I looked up to Buffy from Buffy the Vampire slayer and now, I see these girls who have so many amazing women figures to look up to and my heart swells. I love seeing educated young women changing the world and I love seeing them use their voices as a call to action.
