Today we’d like to introduce you to Hope Perez.
Hope, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up cutting and coloring all of my barbies hair. I always enjoyed hair, all hair. I remember finding any reason I could to do someone’s hair. As I grew up, I became a mother and shifted all of my focus into that, they became my reason. Eventually, the youngest was close to starting school, so I decided it was time to do something for myself. In 2014, I enrolled myself at Paul Mitchell the School in Arlington. I started out part-time to still be able to focus on my children. Shortly after starting school, I found myself going through a divorce and now a single mother. I switched to going to school full time and working evenings to try and finish as fast as possible. I was able to graduate in a year and decided the only place I wanted to work was Osgood O’Neil. Luckily, they hired me and I then began their grueling apprenticeship program. For one year, I worked long hours as an assistant, learning from their educators, and practicing my craft on models. In 2016, I finally earned my spot at our Lovers Lane location as a colorist! I was finally able to settle into a routine with work and motherhood. I can’t imagine my life any other way. I get to wake up and do something I am passionate about each and every day.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I started my career as a single mother of four boys. I’ve had to face every challenge and obstacle imaginable. You just have to keep the faith and remember you are strong enough to face anything.
