So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my blogging journey after returning from a five-month stay in Granada, Spain. When living abroad, I spent every week traveling to a different city or country. Life was a constant adventure! However, when I returned to Dallas, Texas, I didn’t want to give up that lifestyle. I couldn’t necessarily spend every weekend jetting off to another country, but I quickly learned how much there was to do in Texas for weekend trips! My goal is that everyone can live a travel lifestyle no matter their situation. Whether it’s finding unique experiences in your own city, exploring the best weekend getaways, or planning that two-week vacation – I’m here to help you make the most of every day!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been a lot of work and it’s been difficult, but I think mindset makes a huge difference. As I started blogging, I had to take control. When a brand said no, I would have to find a new way to make sure I was bringing in money. Brand deals fluctuate with the season and there’s a lot of competition in the industry. It was the advice of a friend who helped me discover my why and what I could do to stand out that helped me find my unique voice.
When it comes to blogging, you have to figure out what’s unique. I loved to travel, but what set me apart from other travel bloggers was my focus on travel in Texas and locations that were accessible to most Texans.
Alright – so let’s talk about your work. Tell us about My Curly Adventures – what should we know?
I work as a travel and lifestyle blogger. I cover different destinations and help people find their next vacation. My main focus is traveling in Texas. I want to help people with a 9-5 travel more and that means sharing destinations that Texans can visit in a weekend. I’ve started a Texas Travel to help Texans explore unique locations close to home that way they can live the travel lifestyle even with a 9-5.
My favorite part is highlighting places that are nearby or are a quick flight. The beauty of Texas is that we have everything! From Italian Gondola cruises to sand dunes that are a reminder of Dubai, and our own wine country, you really can’t get bored in Texas!
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Find your why! There are things about the job that is hard work and there are times where self-doubt creep in. But the motivation is always there, if I know my greatest purpose.
